Transcriber's Notes:
Nothing was written in the Died on the Voyage Column. All blank spaces in
the columns were that way on the Manifest. No ditto marks.
The Captain's name could be Mellington or Wellington.
The writer of this list had very bad penmanship. He seemed to take short cuts
when writing his letters. "Bark" looks like "buk" on the copy of the manifest.
No definite "a" is written. The Captain's name looks like it has "tn" on the
end. His signature has "ton".
* Puto Rico - on the cover page Puerto Rico is written Porto Rico. On the
manifest, it is written "Puto".
* U Stuts - the first "S" is written with a leading "s" which looks
like an "f". The first "t" is not crossed and there is no "e". Believe the
words to stand for U States.
At the top righthand corner of the Manifest is printed: Smith & Lockwood,
Custom House Brokers, 95 Pine Street.
Passengers Notes:
1 - ??herjr - the beginning initals could be V.R. or just a fancy beginning to
"R". The end of the "R" goes up to become either a raised "r" or the
beginning of the capital letter of the surname. The name could be Muher,
Merher, or Tucher. The "jr" on the end could possibly stand for Junior
or the name could be Muherjr, Merherjr, Tucherjr.
3 - M?? - the name could be Man, Mur, or Min.
5 - G???t - the ? letters are not tall nor do they go below the line. The
name could be Grunt, Gruect, Gemet, Genect.
6 - ?loss - the ? letter on the surname could be "W", "T", or "N". The name
could be Wloss, Trloss, Nloss.
8 - M??? - first ? is "i", "e" or "u". Next letter is a taller pointed letter,
but not like the "l" in #7. The name could be Mule, Mille, Melle, Mellr,
Mulr.
