RMS City of Paris
I, John Morehouse, Master of the RMS/S City of Paris do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on Board the said Steamer City of Paris at Liverpool from which port the City of Paris has now arrived; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended ??? ???? to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who have died. recorder.
? The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read due to
the quality of the original documment.
* The column for those who have died on board was eliminated as there were
no deaths recorded.
* Numbers were added to the manifest to aid in reference to specific
passengers.
* Question marks in the sworn statement are letters/words that can't be read
because the page is smudged.
* The question mark in the date of the statement, "Sworn to this ? Oct." is a
large circular mark with several squiggles.
Passenger Notes:
#807 - the first ?s are small letters, possibly "ers", the last ? looks like
an "f".
#829 - this is a small letter
#830 - the first ? could be an "e" or "i", the second ? an "a" or "s"
#831 - two small letters, looks like "ox"
#847,#848 - looks like a small letter but can't be sure because of the "y"
above it
#850 - the entry in the column for sex is probably an error as the occupation
is "wife"
#860 - there is an upstroke and then downstroke that looks like "tz" without
the "t" crossed
#864 - a small letter, looks like "a" or "n"
#896 - a letter that extends below the line like "g" or "j"
#902 - looks like a single stroke but can't tell because of the "j" above
#903-#907 - possibly a "u" or "n"
#909 - two small letters that look like "ev"
#914 - looks like "e" or "i"
#915 - a small letter that looks like "a" or "u"

#944 - two small letters, looks like "or"
