Correspondence 07/20/02 passengers #295-298 Pedersen
Passenger #295 is Soren Pedersen. #296-298 are his wife Anne Marie, their
daughter Ane Kirstine, and son Anders (my great-grandfather). Soren and
Anne Marie were born in Egtved Sogn, Vejle, Danmark; the children were
born just north of Egtved in Limskov, Norup Sogn where Soren was a blacksmith.
The family traveled to Wisconsin, their intended destination being Neenah
where Soren had a lead on a job as a blacksmith. But by the time they
reached Oshkosh, little Ane had come down with smallpox (which had broken
out on board ship) and the family was quarantined in a hurriedly constructed
shelter outside of town. Eventually contact was made with the German
blacksmith who hired Soren and the family lived in Neenah until 1870 when
they moved to Luck, Wisconsin along with a crippled foster daughter whose
parents had died in Neenah. Soren established a blacksmith shop in Luck and
acquired 80 acres to farm. He was one of the founders of West Denmark Lutheran
Church and was its deacon from 1871 until his death in 1911. He was known to

Correspondence 04/11/2005 passengers #100-103 Netz/Nitz
The name surname NETZ, passengers 100 thru 103, should read NITZ. The
family came from around Kreis Randow, Bradenburg Province. When they
arrived in New York they left for Wisconsin, Waukasha County.
In 1867 they homesteaded in Cuming County, Nebraska, near the town of West
Point. Joachim Frederick Nitz was my great great grandfather. jjernesti@hotmail.com

CORRECTIONS to the manifest...
# 165 should be Heinrich Stoltenberg

#167 Esthter Paustian is my Great-grandmother... after arriving in New York

They all came to Hall County, NE.
In the December 12, 1912 in the Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent newspaper
there was a long article in regards to Claus & Esther Paustian Stoltenberg's
50th Wedding Anniversary.
In part it says...
" Mrs. Stoltenberg's maiden name was Esther Paustian. Like her husband, she was
born in the year 1832, on October 6, and she was brought up in the Fatherland
and worked there until the year 1862, when she was a member of a party who came
to America. Able Wrage and Henry Stoltenberg, other pioneers here, were also in
this set of emigrants who landed in New York on July 4, during the troubulous
times of the Civil War. "
(Able Wrage is #166 Able Stoltenberg)
The article also contains a wonderful account of their trip to Hall County.
Claus and Esther had 6 children:
1. Alvina Wilhelmina (Anna) who married Claus Tagge
2. Henry Edward who married Meta Reher (cousin to Ernest, below)
3. Johan Ferdinand who married Amelia (Molly) Heesch
4. Cecelia who married Bernhardt Wiese
5. Helene Wilhelmina (Minnie) who married Ernest F. Reher (my line)
6. Carl married Anna Reher (sister to Ernest)
I'm working on a blog about my Reher family... the Stoltenberg story (so far)
and the complete 50th Anniversary article mentioned above can be seen at:
