LIST OR MANIFEST OF ALIEN IMMIGRANTS FOR THE COMMISSIONER OF IMMIGRATION.
Required by the regulations of the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, under Act of Congress, approved March 3, 1893, to be delivered to the Commissioner of Immigration by the Commanding Officer of any vessel having such passengers on board upon arrival at a port in the United States.
S.S. Monowai, sailing from Sydney January 20th, 1896 arriving at Port of San Francisco, Feb 17, 1896.
Columns represent: Number, Name, Age, Sex, Married or Single, Occupation, Nationality, Last Residence, Final Destination in the US, By whom was passage paid?, Whether in Possession of Money-if less than $30, how much?, Whether ever before in the US, Whether going to join Relative or Friend

There is no captain's statement nor captain's name attached to this manifest.

The following columns had identical entries for all passengers and so were not 
included in the table:
 Able to Read & Write=yes 
 Seaport for Landing in the US=San Francisco  
 Whether having a ticket to final destination=yes (except 15&16)
 Whether ever in Prison, Almshouse or supported by Charity=no
 Whether a Polygamist=no
 Whether under contract to labor in the US=no
 Condition of Health Mental and Physical=good
 Whether having any deformities=no 

Letters that are illegible or difficult to interpret are replaced by ?.

Passenger Notes:
1     has been to Detroit 1874.
3     has been to SF 1888.
4     is going to join Mr Benan, cousin San Diego.
5     has been to SF 1894.  She is going to join Husband Oakland Cal.
6-10  Last Residence is Genalla, Victoria.  They are going to join P.B. Hanlon 
      Brooklyn.
7-10 "children of above" is written in the marital status column.
4-13  Final Destination is indicated by ditto marks.  It is not clear whether 
      they refer to the England entry directly above or the SF at the top of 
      the column.
11    has been to US 1890.  She is going to join Mother Mrs Nolan 
      314 Waller St SF.
12    has been to US 1895.
14    is going to join sister Mrs Stengler Colorado.
15    has been to New York 1893. He has no ticket to final destination.
16-26 These names are written on the list surname first.  They are transcribed 
      here first name first in the interest of uniformity.
16-17 Final Destination is Long Beach, Cala.  He has been to Pasadena, Cala 
      1895. They have no ticket to final destination.
18-21 "Children of the above named Wm & Charlotte Bonnalie" is written across 
      these lines.
22    In Final Destination column S Frisco is crossed out replaced by Vancouver.
23-24 Last Residence is Roxborough, Otajo.
25    has been to Chicago 1894.
26    Occupation is Commercial Traveller.
27-29 These passengers are recorded on a page with a different format than the 
      others.  It is described below.
27    has been to San Fco 1894.  They are going to join JC Donoghue Winnepeg.

NOTICE!
If it is found upon the arrival of the immigrant in the United States that the following questions have not been correctly answered, the immigrant will be immediately returned. The immigrant will be required to swear to the truth of the following answers, if it be called for by the Commissioner of Immigration at the port of arrival in the United States. (A false oath will subject the immigrant to fine or imprisonment.)
