Ship Magdalene
I, H. Henke, Master of the Bremen Ship Magdalene, do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear, that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New Orleans, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said ship at Bremen from which port said ship has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died. Personal Notes
Several families and individuals from the Kingdom of Hanover settled in the
Cole Camp area of Benton County, Missouri and adjoining parts of Morgan and
Pettis Counties (see German Immigrants):
# 90-# 94 - John Becker family: John's wife Wübke (Schroeder) Becker may have
been a sister of Claus Schroeder #400, as the Becker's were in the
Schroeder household 1860. John and Wübke both died in Benton County
1880.
# 93 - was Claus Becker's wife Anna (Renken) Becker, born Ostersode, Hanover.
Claus was killed 1861 in the Battle of Cole Camp, and Anna married Henry
Heimsoth 1863, died 1913.
# 94 - Adelheid Becker was in H. D. Heimsoth household Benton County 1860 and
married John Henry Clausen of Pettis County in 1863.
# 95 - Claus Renken, brother of # 93 Anna (Renken) Becker, died in Benton
County 1908.
# 96 - Margaretha Adelheid Renken, wife of Claus Renken #95 (maiden name also
Renken). Married shortly before voyage in Gnarrenburg, Hanover.
# 97-#103 - Henry Bohling family, from Wörpedorf, Hanover. Henry died in Benton
County about 1890.
#104 - Casper Diedrich Stelling from Seehausen, Hanover. Married Catherine
Traugott in Benton County 1866, died 1914.
#105 - Believed to be Margaret Krenzel. In Henry Harms household Benton County
1860, married Christoph Brandt in Morgan County 1862.
#106 - John Diedrich Bellman. In John Hucker household Benton County 1860,
later fate unknown.

Correspondence 01/09/03 passengers #235 Becker
There are several Becker's on that ship but this Tekla Becker was born in
Breddenberg, Germany. This area is now called "Emsland" (also see www.emslanders.com) .
After she arrived in New Orleans she travelled to St. Louis, MO and on June 19, 1860
married Johann Hermanus Gebken (John H.) at the St. Peter & Paul's church in the
same city. They had 5 children with the names Anna, Helena, Henry A., John H. jr., Mary
Anna Thekla Becker was born on July 28, 1838, she died on June 12, 1893 in
St. Louis, MO. I have a copy of the obit in a newspaper ("Die Westliche Post",
page 4, Wed. 14 June 1893).
Information on John H. Gebken:
His mother's name was: Toebe (Tabitha) Stricker, born in 1789 in Lorup, died
on Oct. 22, 1874 in Breddenberg, she was buried in Boerger.
His father's name was: Johann Gebken, born in 1788 in Breddenberg, died on
Jan. 18, 1865 in Breddenberg, he was buried in Boerger.
In 1886 he founded the Livery & Boarding Stables at 2230 Gravois Ave.,
St. Louis, MO. In 1892 a second business was established at 2842 Meramec Street.
Today this business is still at 2842 Meramec Street and meanwhile in the fifth
generation:

John H. died on Dec. 23, 1911 when a street car hit him and threw him out of his
