Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not
the transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information
in the transcriber's notes.
? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the
condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.
* Although this ship arrived in the port of Baltimore Passenger Manifest was
written on a Port Of New York form by the steamship company. This ship, the
S.S. Leipzig, made regular cross Atlantic
runs from Bremen to Baltimore.
* Handwriting throughout Passenger Manifest is very hard to read.
Passenger Notes:
# 15 - Died on the voyage.
# 19 - Middle name could be Chr. Last name could be Hacht.
# 20 - Occupation appears to be bese maker or broom maker. Besen is the German
word for broom.
# 30-# 41 - Last name o umlaut second letter.
# 37-# 38 - Last name hard to read.
# 39 - Occupation looks like watchmaker.
# 41-# 44 - Last name hard to read; Leinwerenz is another possibility.
# 58 - Last name a umlaut fourth letter.
# 59 - Last name u umlaut.
# 58-# 60 - Destination country for thes Passengers spelled Lelinois. Writer
probably meant Illinois.
# 72-# 73 - Last name hard to read. I would guess that they are the children
of Passengers 37 & 38.
# 93-# 95 - Last name could begin with letter K or Kuh?uth instead of Huh?uth.
# 99 - Last name hard to read.
#106 - Listed with first name as baby, or infant.
#111-#119 - Last name appears to read either Pausu or Fausu.
#124 - Last name appears to be Fehlel, could be Fehler.
#139-#143 - Last name appears to be Jahn.
#144-#145 - Last name appears to be Prochaska.
#146 - Last name could be Hopta or H?pta.
#162-#163 - Last name could be Holoperok or Holop?r??.
#164 - Cannot read this entry.
#155-#158 - Last name appears to be Schweiseol.
#164 - Cannot read this entry.
#165-#170 - Surname appears to be Schrotter.
#166: - First name appears to be Deronika.
#188 - Sex is not listed but this Passenger must have been male as he had an
occupation of farmer listed and no females on this ship were listed
with occupations.
#189 - Last name o umlaut second letter.
#190-#197 - Destination abbreviation is for the state of Pennslyvania.
#198-#203 - Destination abbreviation is for the state of Michigan.
#205 - Passenger List had ditto mark below last name of Passenger number 204.
Most likely List writer meant infant of Passenger 204.
#216 - Born on the Voyage. He appears to be the child of Passenger No. 15,
Bertha Koimke, who died on the voyage. This is the closest last name.
Correspondence added 05/09/06, passenger #60, HALBIG
Johann Halbig, who was the point man for his part of the family immigrating to the US
was probably a distant cousin of my great-grandfather, Johann Paul Halbig
who arrived in the US in 1880 or 1881. As there is only one place on the Germany map where the
Halbig name is listed, Johann probably came from the same town as my great-grandfather,
Machtilshausen in Bavaria or Bayern.
Researching Halbig, Braughal, Kluge, Meiningman, Mulholland and Smith.

Correspondence 06/01/01 passengers #7-13 BARZ
While looking over this list I came across my grandmother and her family.
They are numbers 7 to 13. Bertha Barz was my grandmother. My grandfather
was Charles Reimer they settled in Indianapolis. They had 5 children,
Herbert, my father in 1892, Frances in 1893, Margaret in 1894, Alfred
in 1897 and Frank in 1902. My grandfather died around 1906 and my
grandmother didn't remarry until 1918. My father served in WW 1 in
France. He later moved to Detroit where he met my mother Clara Kassin.
They were married in 1931 and had 9 children. My parents died in 1965.
I have been looking for information on my family for about 6 months and
this is just another space filled in for me.
If anyone is researching this family, please contact Ed Reimer
