Manifeste du n're Josephine, Cap'ne Mercadier, venant de la Guadeloupe sur ?est &
ses vivre. Bagage? de? passagers 4 caisses ornamente d'eglise; 14 sacs dem?it effete?.*

Transcriber's Notes:
The ship left Guadaloupe 20 January 1837. The captain's name seems to have
been Mercadier. The ship was registered at Havre. Guadaloupe was spelled
two different ways on this list.

Cannot read all of the note at end of list, due to lightness of print, but seems to be
mainly about the amount of baggage with the passengers, 4 cases of church items,
and 14 parcels of wearing apparel.

For all the passengers except #23 there was noted in French that was not all
legible, something like "m?ni d'ou passengers" (or that is what I think);
#23 had "gagnant d'ou passage" in the line for him, which meant he
earned his passage.

French titles Mde for Madame and Mlle for Mademoiselle were used.

  #1 birthplace looks like Gaussan or Santtan or variation.
  #2 birthplace looks like Obteyain or Obtegam or variation;
     age possibly 49.
  #3 surname could be Cruchel or Crucbet or Cruchet or variation;
     age 27 perhaps; district probably Loire.
  #4 birthplace looks like Godehhaus.
  #5 age could be 27 or 29.
  #6 birthplace something like Villeron.
  #7 surname something like Maeubaut or Maenbant or variation.
  #8 first name looks like Jh or Gle or Jle; birthplace possibly
     Nulle, but not certain of first letter; the district could be Daubs.
  #9 surname looks like Soller or Sotter; birthplace looks like Noushein
     or Nousheim; district looks something like St. Mehir or Gt. Vehin
     or variation; age possibly 28 or 38.
 #10 surname looks like Eaousselon or Caonttelon or Moutellon or variation.
 #11 birthplace looks like Pont Vassin, but not certain; district something
     like de la Mere; age could be 27 or 29..
 #12 for district, looks like "ausi" for also; probably meant to be Paris.
 #13 the town of birth could be Senne or Lenne. For Madame Menard, her first
     name was written "nee Pierrette" for "born" Pierrette. Presumably that
     was her first name.
 #15-16 the first names were not given for the daughters of Mde. Menard.
 #17 birthplace looks like Gaud.
 #18 surname looks like Ladaviere or Sadaviere; some damage in area for age.
 #19 town of birth looks like Nrol or Noul; district looks like
     Odenne or Orenne.
 #20 age could be 27 or 29.
 #21 her occupation seems to be "rentiere";
     age could be 29; last residence something like Bessay or Bellay;
     birthplace something possibly meant to be "as written before"
     but not certain; district looks like "dellaud".
 #22 uncertain which name was the surname for this passenger.
     Both names will be listed in the surname index.
 #23 note by his name looks like "gagnant d'ou passage".
National Archives and Records Administration, Film M259, Reel 14.
