Transcriber's Notes:
* Asterisks indicate transcriber's notes.
? Question marks indicate illegible letters
* Passenger numbers were added by the transcriber for reference.
* There were no entries in the Died on the Voyage column.
* Parts of the list had "do" between changes of passenger destinations, while
others are blank for from one to a dozen lines. Where none was shown, the
last destination written out has been listed, on assumption the listmaker
just got tired of writing "do".
Passenger Notes:
* Surnames of the following passengers had umlauts:
Over a = 4
Over o = 10, 14, 32, 37, 108-109, 116-118
Over u = 4, 25, 35, 66
#1 to #3 - Residence listed as Charleston in Spengemann book (see link).
# 4 and # 5 - Occupation of #4 is too dim to read, and #5 has "do". Word
appears to be something like "Mitionary" (Missionary?).

Occupation and destination deleted by holes in list.
# 7 - Residence listed as Cassel in Spengemann book (see link)

Personal Note:
#35 was Cord Müller from Fischerhude, Hanover. He migrated west to St Louis,
married Gretje Mahnken from Wilstedt, Hanover there in 1839, and joined his
widowed mother Gesche, older brother Peter, and twin brother John Henry, who
had immigrated 1838, at a new German settlement in the Cole Camp area of
Benton County, Missouri. In mid 1840s, Cord and Gretje moved north to
southeast Pettis County, and again to adjoining northwest Morgan County in
1850s. During the turbulent Civil War years, the family moved to St Clair
County, Illinois where Gretje apparently died. Cord and some of the children
later returned, and Cord is known to have resided in Smithton, Missouri 1880s,
but his final fate remains unknown. Cord and Gretje's daughter Catherine
Margaret Mueller, born in Benton County 1843, was a greatgrandmother of the
transcriber. (See also German Immigrants)
Correspondence 06/10/01 passengers #39-49 and 64 HANFT
No. 64, Johann Hanft, is my great grandfather. His parents were Nos. 42
and 43, Johann and Barbara (Beckert) Hanft. They emigrated in 1837 from
the Burkardroth area of Bavaria.
I do not know where Johann and Barbara Hanft (Nos. 42 and 43) finally
settled, probably New Orleans, Louisiana, for that is where some of
their grandchildren were born. Johann Hanft (No. 64), my grgrandfather,
finally settled in Galena, Illinois about 1850, but some of his children
were born in New Orleans. He died in Galena in 1870.
Two of Johann (No. 64) Hanft's siblings were living in Galena in 1850.
They were Andreas Hanft (No. 39 or possibly 48), and Eva (Hanft) Heinfautz
(No. 46). Eva's child was born in New Orleans.
Wilhelm (Kasper W.) Hanft (No. 41), the son of Andreas was also living in
Galena in 1850, and the mother, Barbara, presumably a widow, was living
in Galena with her daughter Eva in 1850.
The Hanft family of three generations of emigrants to America is also
recorded in the book by Friedrich Spengemann: "Die Reisen der
Segelfregatten Isabella, Pauline, Meta und Uhland nach Nordamerika."

Correspondence 3/13/02 passenger #2 Schroder, #96 Melchings
Passenger 2, Jacob Schroder, on Ship Isabella from Bremen, Germany
to New York on 4 October 1837 was my great grand father. His first
wife was passenger 99, Meta Melchings, on the same ship.
I am a descendant from his third marriage to Metha Gesina Monzace.
Jacob was a prominent merchant in Charleston, SC. In 1850, he along
with General John A. Wagner and members of the German Colonization
Society founded the town of Walhalla, SC. Frances Schroder Plyler
Correspondence 07/30/2003 passengers #5
I (Norbert Oertel) believe that the 5th passenger on the list,
Maximilian Oertel, is one of the sons of my gr. gr. gr. grandfather
Dr. Eucharius Oertel.
Dr. Eucharius Oertel was born on 5/13/1765 in Streitberg (Bavaria,
Germany) and was married two times. With his first wife, Juliane (or
Johanna?) Muck, born in 1776, he had 8 children. The seventh child
was born on 5/1/1811 in Ansbach and given the name Johann Jakob
Maximilian, but he was called Maximilian. We knew that he emigrated
to the US and are glad that we found him on one of the passenger
lists now. We don't have any information about where he settled,
what happened to him and whether he had any children. Any hints are
welcome!
For more information about the ancestry and history of
Dr. Eucharius Oertel you can contact me by e-mail.
