I Ernest W Owens Master of the S.S Iowa do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Port of Boston, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said vessel at Liverpool from which port said vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, sex, calling, country of citizenship, native country, intended destination or location, number of pieces of baggage, location of compartment or space occupied, and date and cause of death of passengers, as required by the "Passenger Act of 1882"; also a true statement, so far as it can be ascertained, with reference to the Intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojour in this country. * Passenger numbers:
On the original list the numbering begins with 530,
many numbers are skipped and often two together are
not in any sequence, ie. 1219 next is 2322. Other
numbers are not readable because the edge of the page
is totally black. The transcriber wrote numbers as they
appeared. In addition, the formatter has numbered the
list consecutively to aid in referring to the
transcriber's notes below.
* The total number of passengers on this ship was 156.
* Numerous ages are written as the small letter a
(See the age column of passenger number 1, above.)
Some ages were not recorded at all.
Passenger # 9 - First letter could be J followed by three small
letters of un, or ss then el.
Passenger # 82 - The last name could be any possible combination
of small letters possibly ending in faio or paio
Passenger # 83 - Rivers could be any possible combination of small
letters.
Passenger # 84 - Occupation begins with S, then could be e or i,
then possibly an l followed by perhaps eseman.
Passenger #119 - Le?????sky could be any combinatin of letters
looking somewhat like Lellechuisky
Passenger #145 - Isreal ?eirman, First letter is unreadable.
Perhaps an E or an R
