I, T. N. Paulsen, master of Ship Howard, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed with my name, and now delivered to the collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, contains to the best of my knowledge and belief a just and true account of all the passengers received on board the Hamburg Ship Howard, whereof, I am Master, from Hamburg. So help me God. T. N. Paulsen.

Transcriber's Notes:
  Cabin Passengers were written first, #1 through #8
  Steerage passengers begin with number #9     
  The use of an * after the passenger number indicates an error on the
  original maifest.
  The use of ? indicated a letter or word that could not be read
  due to the quality of the copy of the microfilmed copy.
  The original recorder put ditto marks for occupations of
  the wives and children on some of the passengers. 
  There are umlaut over some vowels in the surnames, see notes below
  for each of the surnames.
  These passengers were re-numbered by the transcriber, not the same as
  on original film. 
All the towns are listed below with possible locations.
  Altona could be in Hamburg, Germany or Nordrheim, Westfalen, Germany.
   Or Altona, Denmark.
  Bitzebuttel could be Barsbuttel or Brunsbuttel, both in Schleswig-
   Holstein, Germany.
  Broskau Could be Broskov, Storstrom, Denmark, or Brockau,Sachsen,
   Germany or Braslau, Vitebstk, Belarus.
  Dosewitz could be Dersewitz, Danewitz, Dorstewitz, Doschwitz or 
   Drusewitz all in Germany. Or Donawitz, Steiermark, Austria. 
  Drozssig could be DroBig, DroBling, or DroyBig all in Germany. Or it
   could be Drosing, Niederosterrech, Austria.
  Dreusendorff could be Daisendorf, Dassendorf, Draisendorf or
   Drausendorf all in Germany or Drasendorf, Niederosterrech, Austria.
  Farisehen could be Farmsen, Farrensen or Farsleben all in Germany.
  Femern could be Feren, Norway or Freren or Friemen in Germany.
   Or it could be spelled Temern and could be Temmen, Brandenberg,
   Germany or Termen, Valais, Switzerland.
  Fulda could be Fulda, Hessen Germany or Hulde, Niedersachsen,  
   Germany.
  Grodna could be Grodnau, Burgenland, Austria or Grodnica, Poland.
  Hesligenstadt could be Heiligenstadt, Bayern, Germany or 
   Heiligenstadt, Wien, Vienna, Austria or Heiligenstadt, Vienna,
   Austria.
  Klosterhaussan could be Kloosterburen or Kloosterlaan both in the
   Netherlands or Klosterbrunnen, Klostergaststatte or Klosterhaeseler
   all in Germany. Or it could be Kerstenhause, Hessen, Germany.
  Lascowitz could be Lasiewity, Poland or Loschwitz in either Bayern or
   Sachsen both in Germany.
  Neuhaus could be Neuhaus, Niedersachsen, Germany, or Neuhaus, 
   Sanktgallen, Switzerland or Neuhaus, Karnten, Austria.
  Posen is in Germany.
  Schwarzenberg could be in Austria, Germany or Switzerland.  There are
   several in each county.
  Sjoandau could be Spandau, Berlin, Germany or Sjonhaug, Ostfold, 
  Norway or Sorandu, Jarvamaa, Estonia (which was part of the old 
   Germany).
  Slanim could be Slanic, Prahova, Romania or Slonim, Grodno, Belarus
   (which was part of the old Germany).
  Wandsbeck could be Wandsbek, Hamburg, Germany or Windsback, Bayern, 
   Germany.
  Wiesbaden is in Hessen, Germany.

Passenger Notes:
 #6 - Surname Baeris could be Beeris
 #7 to #8 -Surname Davignon should be D'Avignon
 #9 - Surname Wilholm could be Wilholms, Wilhelm or Wilhelms 
#10 - Surname Wollmer, there is an umlaut over the vowel o
#18 - Surname Wiedenbaum could be Wiedenbaues or Wiedenbaun  
#20 - First name Eo^a could mean Elizabeth or some variation
#51 - Surname Brokert could be Brokut or Bickert
#52 - Surname Markas could be Markus, and the 
      first name ?ander could be Yander or Jander 
#53 - First name ?allu could be Yallu or Jallu
#54 to #55 - Surname Dams, Darns or Doms 
Personal Notes
Passengers #7 & #8 are Elizabeth D'Avignon and Alice D'Avignon, my great-great-grandmother and gg Aunt.
