Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk(*) indicates an error on the part of the original
recorder not the transcriber, or a note to the reader.
? A question mark (?) indicates a letter or word that cannot be
read due to the quality of the original document or
handwriting of the original writer.
* The top portion of the first page with the captain's statement
has been taped together and the words are not readable. This
is part of the standard sworn statement of ships of that time.
* Died on voyage column was used to indicate location of
passenger on ship. The one passenger who died is also noted
in this column (#99).
* At passenger #71, the writer starts omitting the passenger
numbers for those age 1 and under. These passengers were
numbered as ISTG requires, so the numbering will be off from
the original at this point.
Passenger # 4 - Destination probably Milwaukee.
Passenger # 17 - Writers 'St'is very much like his 'H', so it is
possible the name is Hock.
Passenger # 23 - Ink spot over second number of age, but top and
bottom appear to show an 8.
Passenger # 24 - Writer's 'St' is very much like his 'H', so it
is possible the name is Heuernagel.
Passenger # 30 - Muller has an umlaut over the 'u'.
Passenger # 35 - Occupation probably Mason.
Passenger # 36 - Possibly Peche but the fourth letter looks more
like a 'k'.
Passenger # 39 - Clearly Iova, assume to mean Iowa.
Passenger # 58 - Boning has an umlaut over the 'o'.
Passenger # 74 - Hoss has an umlaut over the 'o'.
Passenger # 78 - Rube has an umlaut over the 'u'.
Passenger # 82 - This name was squeezed in between two lines,
as if overlooked and added with family.
Passenger # 83 - Occupation probalby Mason.
Passenger # 89 - Kuhnemeyer has umlauts over the 'u' and 'y'.
Passenger #100 - Occupation column states 'died on voyage'.
Passenger #102 - Muller has an umlaut over the 'u'. Occupation
probably meaning Weaver.
Passenger #104 - Writer's 'St' is very much like his 'H', so it
is possible the name is Heidl.
Passenger #106 - Luder has an umlaut over the 'u'. Writer's
'St' is very much like his 'H', so it could
be Helling.
Passenger #113 - Kutern has an umlaut over the 'u'.

Edward Ziebarth was born in 1840, the son of William and Rosina Ziebarth of Gurkow, Kreis Friedeberg, Brandenberg. In 1861, he enlisted in the 4th Reg., Co. B, Minnesota Infantry, for service in the Civil War. According to records of his Company, and his military record, he was wounded at the Battle of Iuka (MS), present at the siege of Vicksburg, and captured by rebel cavalry while scouting near Allatoona, GA. He was mustered out in Minneapolis in Feb. 1865. After the Civil War he married Mary Margaretta Knaeble (born in PA) in 1866 in a double wedding in Minneapolis with her sister Susan Knaeble and Mathias Kees. They first farmed near Lake Minnetonka, then moved to Delano, MN where they farmed until late 1873/early 1874. They moved to Herman MN until they were eaten out by grasshoppers in about 1876. They returned to Delano until about 1880 when they returned to Herman again. In 1890 the family moved to Seattle, WA. Edward died in 1925 at the Soldier’s Home in Retsil, WA, with burial in Seattle, WA. Mary and Edward had 11 children: Emma, Ida, August, Lydea, Herman, Clara, Mary, Anna S., Anna M., Herbert, and Perly.
(Passenger #42) Kaye Jaehn and Mildred Evaskovich
Rosalia or Rosena Ziebarth was born 15 August 1828, the daughter of William and Rosina Ziebarth of Gurkow, Kreis Friedeberg, Brandenberg. She married Mathias Flakker, listed as Martin on the ship’s passenger list (#49), and they came to the United States with her parents and her siblings (passengers #39-52) in 1855. Rosalia and Mathias farmed in Wright, Kandiyohi, and Grant counties in Minnesota. They had seven children, all but the first were born after they came to the US. Rosalia died 18 February 1905 and was buried at the Lakeside Cemetery, Herman, MN, 20 February 1905.
(Passenger #49) Kaye Jaehn and Mildred Evaskovich
Mathias (or Martin) Flakker (Flacker) was born 01 Sept. 1824 in Prussia. He married Rosena Ziebarth (passenger #42). They came to the US with their daughter, Maria (passenger #52), and with Rosena's parents and siblings. He became a citizen of the United States 2 July 1874. He was listed as a farmer and as a carpenter on Minnesota census lists. He died 10 May 1894 and was buried at the Lakeside Cemetery, Herman, MN, 13 May 1894.
(Passenger #52) Kaye Jaehn and Mildred Evaskovich
Maria (Mary) Flakker (Flacker) came to the United States with her parents (passengers # 42 & #49), Mathais and Rosena (Ziebarth) Flakker in 1855, at the age of two. She married Herman BREHM, with whom she had three children, Bertha, Rose, and Herman. They lived at Willmar, MN.
Correspondence 01/18/2003 passengers #108-110 Pieh
John/Johannes, Elizabeth and Johannes Friederich, # 108, 109 and 110, came from Dreihausen, now incorporated as Ebsdorfergrund, Hessen. Information from "History of Dane County, WI - 1880" says that John Pieh ran a hotel at Pheasant Branch in the Town of Middleton. He came to Wisconsin in the fall of 1855. He was born in Kurhessen, in 1829, a son of George and Elizabeth (Hetterich) Pieh. He married Elizabeth Lorch and they had 13 children... five children died young. He had the hotel and also ran a butcher and produce shop." Bpieh@aol.com
Correspondence added 9-29-2006, #204 Hafemeier Dear Sirs: What fun to find my families name on the Sailboat Hermine, in 1855. Conrad Hafemeier # 204, son of Conrad Carl and Engel Marie Elisabeth (Koller) Havemeier was born on his father's farm, Vornhagen, # 7, Schaumburg Lippe Germany and according to Conrad's documentation he came to America in 1855, with his brother Henry; possibly named John, and a friend Wilhelm Langhorst. Conrad's quote from his notes: It took seven weeks to cross the ocean in a Sailboat to New York and from there he went to Chircago, Illinois. While he was in Chicago, he met and married Sophia Becker on June 10, 1857 and with a group they traveled three weeks by covered wagon and oxen arriving June 11, 1857 at Courtland, MN, Nicollet County. Conrad changed his name to Johann Conrad Havemeier and when he arrived in Minnesota he purchased land for $1.25 an acre and since he needed to live on his land for three years he and Henry Grundmeier built a log cabin on the property line. Johann Conrad and Sophia had nine children; three passed away in 1870 - 1871 we assume from scarlet fever. Johann was one of the first founders of the Courtland Creamery and instrumental in started Immanuel Lutheran Church and parochial school in Courtland Township, Courtland, MN. Johann befriended the Indians but when the 1862 "Dakota Conflict" began he sent his family to St. Peter, MN for safety and joined the St. Peter Company who traveled to New Ulm, MN. John Hafemeier # 203, and his brother Conrad traveled from Germany to Chicago, Illinois but John decided to travel and settle in Peru, Nebraska. He married Anna Juhl and they are both buried in Peru, Nebraska. Submitted by Great-Granddaughter
