Ship Havre
I, Saml. Askins, Master of the Ship Havre do solemnly, sincerely, and truly that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me, to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Ship at Havre from which port said Ship has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died. So Help me God (signature) Saml. Askins Sworn to this 14 Septr 1857 Before me (signature) White, D.C.
List or Manifest of all the passengers taken on board the Ship Havre whereof Saml. Askins is Master from burthen 870 19/21: tons.
Columns represent: Passenger number, Name, Age, Sex, Occupation, Country to which they severally belong, Country in which they intend to become inhabitants, Died in voyage, Part of ship passenger occupied. Every person's occupation was listed as a farmer, all passengers were listed as going to the United States, so those columns were eliminated. Passenger #73 was the only death, so that column was also eliminated. See footnote on cabin.

Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not
the transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information
in the transcriber's notes.
1. Baden, Bavaria, Hesse, Nassau, and Wurttemberg are areas in Germany not far
from Switzerland (Suisse). Prussia is in NE Germany but sometimes is
considered to be a wide area in old Germany.
2. The handwriting in the Manifest was good. However, there were the usual
problems distinquishing between n/u, r/s, c/e/i, 1/7, and the use of f for
s. Question marks indicate letters not clear.
3. Columns eliminated are noted ahead of the list, except the accomodations
had an indecipherable notation, which may have been, Bet. Decks.
4. Several first names were shortened by the Manifest scribe. Where the last
letter is raised, I have inserted a ^ sign.
Passenger Notes:
# 4 - Catha^a is probably Catharina.
# 6 - Probably Veill.
# 8 - Last letter of Mar could be y, d, s, or x.
