SS Hammonia
I, H. T. Schwursen, Master of the German s.s. Hammonia do solemnly, sincerely, and truly declare that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York is a full and perfect list of all the Passengers taken on board of the said Hammonia at Hamburg from which port said Hammonia has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each said passengers, the location of the compartments or space of the said vessel occupied by each passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each, and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates, and names and ages of those who died; also the pieces of baggage of each, also a true statement so far as can be ascertained with reference to the intention of each alien passenger, as to a protracted sojourn in this country.

He met MARIE DOROTHEE BURMEISTER before 1890 in Wittingen, Germany. She was born May 27, 1868 in Suderwittingen, Germany, and died August 11, 1954 in Wittingen, Germany. He married ANNA PAULINE ROLOFF 1892 in Germany, daughter of LUDWIG ROLOFF/ROHLOFF. She was born October 27, 1875 in Posen/Poznan Province, Germany formerly known as Poland, and died October 30, 1937 in Pittsburg, Crawford Co., Kansas. Family stories passed on to Heinrich Burmeister of Germany, as told to Cindy Marcell- Heinrich took the German Hammonia sailing ship from Hamburg to America. The Historic Museum Bremerhaven says: Ship was Hammonia. Captain was Swassen. Compartment was steerage passenger. Port was Hamburg. Date of arrival was Okt. 9 1883. Age was 17. Male was masculine, job was worker, to read and to write was unknown. The last permanent place of residence was not listed. Last land was Preussen. Mr. S. Heine of Germany said that his great-grandfather Christoph Koertje emigrated together with H.W. Schulze on this 1883 voyage. The Historic Museum Bremerhaven says that Christ. Koertje emigrated 1883 with the ship Frisia from port Hamburg & Havre. Captain was Kopff. Compartment was steerage passenger. Date of arrival was Sept. 18, 1883. His age was 29. Male was masculine. His job was mason, to read and to write was unknown, last permanent place of residence was not listed. Last land was Hannover. Quelle (reference) National Archives, USA Manifest Nr. 39545. Cindy Marcell has copies of documents from this museum showing both Christoph & Henry emigrated at the same time on different ships, courtesy of Heinrich Burmeister. Family stories passed down to Heinrich Burmeister reveal both Christoph and Henry returned to Germany where Christoph married Henry's twin sister Marie Wilhelmine Schulze in 1887 and they remained there. Henry emigrated back to America in abt 1897 this time with his wife Pauline & son, Ernest, where they remained till death. Henry & Pauline had 12 children with 11 living into adulthood and this included 2 sets of twins. Family research reveals Henry was a twin himself and his mother bore 3 sets of twins. Henry worked in Pittsburg, Kansas in the early days at a brick factory and later owned and operated his own farm.
