The first eight passengers are apparently cabin passengers, although this is
not specified in so many words.
The first eight passengers do not have anything indicated in the column
representing the country to which they intend to become inhabitants.
All steerage passengers are listed as farmers, and all intended to become
residents of the United States.
Eight steerage passengers' names have been crossed out with a dark horizontal
line. These men apparently did not make the trip.
The tally of passengers - 281 - appears to be the number of steerage passengers
landing in New York. Total Passengers: 297 less 8 Cabin = 289 Steerage
less 8 names crossed off = 281.

her gender.

203 Only the single name Schmidt is listed. It could be construed as a first
name, and that the surname is meant to be the same as the preceding entry;
however, this rendering seems doubtful since the use of surnames as given
names was not a German custom.

(possibly holes in the manifest) which obliterate part of the age. The
age appears to be 48 or 49.
246 There is a crease through this entry, and several dark splotches
(possibly holes in the manifest) which obliterate the age entirely.
262 through 265. There is an umlaut over the a in Holzhauser.
268 There is an accent aigu over the final e in Desire. The second letter
in the surname is written over. It might possibly be a u - Hutat.

Notes on Passengers
Although a native of France, Jacques Heidet was actually a resident of
the US, having arrived on the ship Henri IV on 17 May 1828, with other Heidet
and Moulin family members. He apparently returned to France to serve as a
guide for additional family members. Originally from Romagny-sous-Rougemont,
Territory of Belfort, France, he settled in Stark Co., Ohio.
Family settled in Nimishillen Twp., Stark Co., Ohio. Mary L. and Joseph
Heidet are buried in St. Louis Cemetery, Louisville, Ohio. Like the rest of
the Heidet family, they are not from Hesse or Bavaria, but most likely are
from Romagny-sous-Rougemont or one of the neighboring villages in the
Territory of Belfort.
The family of Jean Claude Heidet and his wife Marie Barbe, also born Heidet,
were from the village of Romagny-sous-Rougemont, Territory of Belfort, France.
Son Nicolas was born there 30 July 1825. The family settled in Nimishillen
Twp., Stark Co., Ohio. Several members of the family are buried in Sacred
Heart of Mary Cemetery, Harrisburg, Stark Co.
Joseph Clere and his wife Marie Francoise Heidet emigrated from Romagny-sous-
Rougemont, Belfort, to Stark Co., Ohio. Son Nicolas was born at Romagny-sous-
Rougement on 29 Dec. 1824. Joseph Clere is buried in Union Cemetery,
Nimishillen Twp., Stark Co., Ohio.
Family of Jean Pierre Heidet and his wife Anne Eve Bailly were also from
Romagny-sous-Rougemont. Several of the children were born there: Marie,
27 July 1822; Marianne, 8 June 1824; Germain Francois, 5 Dec. 1826; and
Pauline, 26 Jan. 1829. The family settled near Frenchtown, Crawford Co., PA.
The parents and several of the children are buried at St. Hippolyte's Cemetery,
Frenchtown, PA.
Family of Jean Claude Moulin and wife Francoise Heidet from Romagny-sous-
Rougemont. Son Joseph was born there 3 Sept. 1828. The family settled in
Stark Co., Ohio. Parents are buried in Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery,
Harrisburg, Ohio.
Possibly the Jean Baptiste Reiniche who made his declaration of intent to
become a citizen on 24 July 1847 in Allen Co., Indiana.

Parents - Gaspard HUMMER from Neiderkorn, Luxemburg & Catherine LAMBERT of
Aix sur Cloie, Prov. of Lux., Belg.
Joseph HUMMER married Elizabeth RINGEMANN on 12 April, 1842 at St. Augustine
Church, Minster, Auglaize Co., Ohio, & 5 children were born to the union.
Elizabeth died in 1858, buried at St. Michael Church, Fort Loramie, Shelby Co., Ohio.
Joseph HUMMER married Crescentia KUNKLER on 28 June, 1859 at St. Michael Church,
Fort Loramie, Shelby Co., Ohio to which union, 5 other children were born, my
grandmother, Margaret HUMMER, the 4th child of this union, on 16 Dec., 1867, at
St. Cloud, MN., the family having moved there for a period of 10 years, &
returned to Ohio. Joseph HUMMER dec. on 18 May, 1891, St. John Church,
Maria Stein, Mercer, Co., Ohio & Crescentia HUMMER dec. on 5 Oct., 1900, buried
