I J Spear do solemnly, sincerely and truly Swear that the following List or Manifest of Passengers subscribed with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New-York, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the Bg Frances whereof I am Master, from Vera Cruz So help me God. ?  The use of a "?" indicates a word or letters that could not be read, due
   to the quality of the original document.

^  The use of a caret "^" indicates the following letter has been 
   superscripted.

*  Surname of witness is undecipherable, but is followed by 'DC': Deputy
   Collector

*  The Captain signed his name in the 'Died' column, and then lined-out the
   name, signing it again in a different column; so there are no entries in the
   'Months' or 'Died' columns and they are omitted.

#1 - According to "Emigrants & Exiles" by Keith Miller, 'Mechanics' on a ship's
     list may mean: "boiler makers, painters, machinists or flax spinners."
