Ship Emerald


Liverpool, England to Boston, Massachusetts
15 August 1826

DISTRICT OF BOSTON AND CHARLESTOWN – PORT OF BOSTON
I, Jabez Howes, Jr., do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear, that the within REPORT and LIST, subscribed with my name and now delivered by me to the Collector of the district of BOSTON AND CHARLESTOWN, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, the names, age, sex and occupation of all the passengers, together with the name of the country to which they severally belong, and that of which they intend to become inhabitants, which were on board the Ship Emerald whereof I am at present master, at the time of her sailing from the port of Liverpool or which have at any time since been taken on board the said vessel. And I do likewise swear that all matters whatsoever in said report and list expressed, are, to the best of my knowledge and belief, just and true. SO HELP ME GOD. Transcriber's Notes:     
  #1 surname possibly Patfrey.
  #2 surname could be Dutton or Dalton; looks like Dalton here.
  #3 middle initial could be L or possibly S.
  #4 surname here looks like Dutton compared to #2; age could be 41 or 46 perhaps; 
     cannot see any ditto marks in columns for country information.
  #5 surname looks like Bazir or Bagir or Bagin or Bayin; cannot see any ditto 
     marks in columns for country information. 
  #6-7 surname surname could be Delewan or Deliwar or Deleman perhaps.
  #8 first name looks like Michan or Michau.
  #9 surname light but something like Muglat or Mayln, but not certain 
     if all is visible.
 #12 surname possibly Magan or Magar, perhaps for McCann or McCarr.
 #14-16 surname looks like Finarssaty perhaps.
 #17 surname possibly phonetic for Riley.
 #19 surname looks like Maney.
 #20 surname here looks like Mainy or Marny or Masny.
 #21 surname looks like Heyb or Heyc, but seems to be a period after the 
     name; perhaps was abbreviated for some reason.
 #22 surname possibly Butwoth.
 #23-24 on the copy, cannot see if there are ditto marks for surname; 
     perhaps it is the same as #22.
