Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not
the transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information
in the transcriber's notes.
? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the
condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.
^ Indicates the word may be abbreviated or that superscript was used for the
subsequent letter or letters.
* Columns for the country to which they severally belong, the country in which
they intend to become inhabitants have been omitted in this list because
there were no entries in the columns in the original list.
* This list was very difficult to decipher because the original seems to have
had water damage particularly over the name entries. Also, the original
transcriber abbreviates almost all the given names and anglicizes some
names, such as John and Henry from possibly Johann or Heinrich.

Correspondence 11/06/02 passengers #50-53 Gramann
I believe that the following persons are directly related to us and are our
ancesters.
50 Henry Gramann 36 male peasant 51 Cathar Gramann his wife 33 female 52
Elisabeth Gramann his child 6 female 53 Henry Gramann his child.
In these immigrants match the year and first names of our family tree. Our
last name is Harman. In the process of doing our ancestry, we were told
that the last name was changed from Giesmann, but the presenter of the
information could not be sure that that was correct. She was in her
eighties and could not recall the correct pronounciation. The infant of 6
months old fits with our records of our descendants. The girl does not come
in anywhere, but she could have died before the 1850 census was taken. Our
descendants settled in Northwest Ohio, Wayne County and built their house
which still stands today is still occupied. Henry worked on many of the
canals working his way to Ohio. The earliest we find him is having property
(300 acres) in the 1850's. A history written about him and the family was
found in the ancestry section of Fostoria, Ohio Library.
This article written in 1898 states that the family originally left Bremen
in 1836. The ship's name "Briarcliff" cannot be confirmed in any records I
have searched. So I cannot confirm that the name of the ship if correct.
But it would seem this is the closest match that I can find.
