On the manifest list of the passengers that came over on the Bark Edward Ship
on 5 September 1857 from Bremen, Germany to New York, passenger #114,
Kunig. Vilbig 24 female I believe is my Great Grandmother. My mother,
now deceased, spelled her name as Kundigunda Vilbig. Kundigunda was born
in Forweisach, Bavaria, Germany on 20 May 1833, she died 31 July 1897.
She married Andrew Weiglein, born 12 December 1829 in Bavaria, Germany.
Andrew died 5 August 1912. We know they lived for a time in Erie,
Pennsylvania, where Andrew was employed in the ship building industry.
Their first son, John, died as an infant while they lived in Erie. The
Weigleins then came to the Town of LeRoy, Dodge County, Wisconsin. In
1865 they purchased 100 acres of land in the Town of LeRoy where they
farmed all their life. Andrew was a veteran of the Civil War. They
had ten children, John, Maria, Sophia, Amelia, Alexander, Ludwig,
Katherine, John, Veronica, and Pauline. Both Kundigunda and Andrew
are buried in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery, LeRoy, WI.
