Transcriber's Notes:
I have had great help from Faith on this list, as I could not have done it
alone. So am going to put her email address along with mine as transcribers.
I have eliminated the country in which they intend to become inhabitants as
all are listed as United States. Except for #1 All are listed as between deck,
even though the captain wrote this in the column that lists Died on the Voyage.
I feel quite sure he didn't mean they all died.
  * The date of arrival is indicated as 4 February 1857. However, the cover
sheet lists it as 4 September 1857, placing it on the National Archives and
Records Administration Reel #178.

Passenger Notes:
#1 I believe that his name is "Carl Baron von Fol", or "Baron Carl von Fol".
In the surname list I have put Baron von Fol, von Fol, and Fol. Here is what
Faith had to say about this name, "In Germany, his name would still be written
"Carl Baron von Fol" (like to say Carl (the) Baron von (of) Fol). But, in
English we would write "Baron Carl von Fol". Surname for the surname list
    would be "von Fol".

Correspondence April 3, 2008 Interesting Explanation of name Carl Baron von Fol
Hello, Thanks for all the efforts on the transcriptions.
I have been searching for "Baron" on records for years. I read your explanation
and just wanted to add a thought for you and others. Our last name is Baron.
Not a title just a name. And this has provided difficult as each time I entered
a query it was 'assumed' that I was looking for a title and was told it was not
a name. And the name Baron in Silesia/Prussia is like Smith here in the USA.
More than likely this person was actually named Carl Baron and he was from a place
named Fol. Don't have a clue where that was or would be.
Please understand I am not complaining or nit-picking. I applaud you for all your
efforts. When I am able I do census record transcription when I am not doing my
own translations of microfilm of Silesia 1800's.
I just wanted to provide another perspective.
	Kind regards, Patricia Baron

#1 to #6 it looks like the Captain wrote Fetherlands and then scratched it out.
#10 Adin????? The first three question marks are letter that is above the line
but not below, looking like nn or nun or even una. The fourth ? is more than
likely a t as it is above the line with what looks like a cross for the t.
The last letter looks like a z,y. it is below the line but not that far.
#15 & #16 are too dark on the manifest to see what they are.
#26 Maat?? A tall letter with possibly a cross on it; not sure if it's a t cross
or a scratch on the manifest and again the letter that could be a y, z, as
it is part way below the line but open at the top.
#28 Ma???eline One letter could be either an i e then two tall letters like an l.
#29 & 30 eb????? Three? are all above line half way. The last two? are above
    the line and tall.
#31 to #33 K?a??p?rin? The first three ? are all letters that are above the
line half way. The fourth ? is above the line over half way. The last ? is
    above line half way
#39 G????na the first ? is above line half way. The second below the line the
next two are above line half way.
#42 ?le?a Klo?p??huis The first two ? is real dark on the manifest and can't
make it out. In the surname the first ? in above line half way; may be an
    n or u after the p it could be a short l or a tall i.
#41 to #50 Luid???y? Netherlands the ? are letters that are above line half way
like emn. The last ? could be k.
#43 to #50 Ne?elin? the first? looks like a p as it is tall above the line and
long below the line. The last ? is long below the line and half way the
    line on top.
#53 #54 Re????t??The first ? is half way the line on top and below line on the
bottom like maybe a y or g the next 3? are all above line half way like enni
#53 & #65 ???lbo??. The first two ? look like yz as they are half way the line
and then long under the line. The second ? is half way the line like an
    e or i

Correspondence 05/14/02 passengers 17-23
I am related to passengers #17 through 23. In the Netherlands, it was
van der Boegh, in America it has become Vanderboegh. #21, Catalina, is
known as Caroline.

The following is information that we received from Vital Statistics in
Oostburg, The Netherlands about this family, although Caroline came with
them, she isn't listed in this info.

"Mattheus van der Boegh, born July 30, 1826 in Zuidzande. His wife was
Janneke Adriaansen, born July 01, 1821 in Zuidzande. With this marriage
were
4 children born, to wit:
1. Maria van der Boegh, born May 18, 1848 in Zuidzande.
2. Cornelis van der Boegh, born April 23, 1850 in Zuidzande.
3. Jacob van der Boegh, born on Feb 15, 1855 in Zuidzande.
4. Pieter van der Boegh, born on June 6, 1857 in Zuidzande.

All left for North America on July 5, 1857."
