SS Colorado
I, Thomas F. Freeman Master of the S. S. Colorado do solemly, sincerely and truly ____ that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all passengers taken on board of the said steamship at Liverpool and Queenstown from which port said steamship has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said list or manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died. So Help me God. (A smear has partially blotted out Thomas F. Freeman)
Sworn to, this 3 October 1870 Before me (initials unreadable) R? N Wyman? (signature questionable).

Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not
the transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information
in the transcriber's notes.
? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the
condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.
^ Indicates the word may be abbreviated or that superscript was used for the
subsequent letter or letters.
* Passengers are not numbered on the manifest but will be numbered here to
make the notes easier to manage.
* The column of the country in which they intend to become inhabitants is
deleted since they all were coming to the U.S.
* Since none died on the voyage this column is deleted.
* The last column is the part of the ship occupied by each passenger is also
deleted since Passengers 1 through 487 were in Steerage and the balance were
in "Cabin".
* The following transcriber's notes try to describe the possibilities that the
names may have. Lower case letters that are difficult to resolve include
a's, e's, t's, r's, s's, m's, n's, i's, u's and upper case M's, S's. G's.
* Many instances the clerk seemed to use in place of a given name what looks
like Mr. or Mrs. but these are guesses on the part of this transcriber.
Passenger Notes:
# 12 and #13 - Names are unreadable due to ink smears but obviously they are
the youngest female children of Mary Palmer.
# 32 to #34 - Surname maybe Manson.
# 32 - In age column there is a word that looks like Gents" with 23 written
under it. There's no doubt that this person is female since under
Occupation is the word Matr and "f" for sex as well as the first name
being Jane without question..
# 34 - no sex is given.
# 43 - The surname Gaye is written above the word George, which maybe crossed
out.
# 46 - Surname could be Cuss
# 47 - Surname could be Cosguff, Cosquff, Cosgriff, or Cosquiff
# 58 - This "first name" appears frequently and I have assumed it to be Mr. or
Mrs.
# 59 - Surname starts with a "L" and ends in "son" but the rest is very
difficult to decipher.
# 67 - First name is impossible for me to decipher, other than that the first
letter is an "L"..
# 77 to #80 - surame maybe Pasomine or Pasomore.
# 90 - First name maybe Edm or Edw-do not see a period to indicate an
abbreviated name.
# 94 - First name may have a period after what maybe an "r". There maybe a
middle initial "R" or the R could be the first letter of the surname
making it Rothornton.
#104 - Surname is hard to interpret other than what I have-but maybe many other
things such as Curraher.
#107 - Surname mayube Rurk.
#116 - That is exactly as entered for this child's age: 3/2, whether or not the
scribe meant 3 or 2 or 2 going on 3 or 1.5 yrs old is not known.
#117 - Infant's sex not given
#120 - Surname maybe Govanson, Goranlin or many other things.
#124 - There is an unusual superscript after the initial D
#125 - Given name is questionable
#130 - Middle initial maybe an "S"
#131 - Surname maybe Kruyer
#133 - Given and surnames are difficult to read-surname might be Swanson
#139 - Surname could be McGugan, the McG.....gan are pretty definite
#149 - Surname may be Shockley.
#151 - First name as written looks like Edor'c, as well as for #171, #273 and
#390. The contraction looks like the letter "c", but I think the scribe
intended it to be a "d" making the first names Edward, Bernard, and
Edmund (#390). Surname could be Bliest..
#163 - First name is unclear-might be Mr. or Hans
#170 - surame could be Lachani or Jachani, the final "i" is definite as the dot
over it is clear..
#171 - See footnote for Passenger #151 concerning contraction of first name, so
that it is likely to be Bernard. Surname begins with G and ends with
grew or grow, the 2 to 3 letters in between can not be resolved, maybe
G?nsgrew.
#174 - First name starts with an E, the 2nd letter is an h or an l and ends
with a "l" and has 1 or 2 letters in between-like Elul, Elnil, or Ehul.
Surname could be Uhlem.
#175 - First name is odd but that is what it looks like. Surname could be
Pierre.
#176 - The first part of the first name looks ok, but the last part is a rough
guess. Surname could be Pierre.
#183 - First name might be Rasmins, or many other possibities.
#185 - First name maybe Antoon.
#186 - Surname is strange but is repeated for passenger #188 exactly, the A
is definite and the last letter is "k", maybe Arick or Aruck?
#187 - the first name and surname are very difficult to interpret and could be
many things. The surname is the same for passengers 189 to 192 and
Huitenk is the closet guess. First name coul
#188 to #193 - the females in this group seem to have male names that look like
Johan, Bernard and Jan.
#193 - Surname could be Bactrusk
#194 and #197 - The first name in both cases begins with G may end with us.
#194 - The surname maybe Jesabuch.
#199 - Surname could be anything, v. similar to #194-First letter is
questionable - may end in linch like maybe Jeaclinch
#206 - First name starts with an L. and may be Lena
#207 - First name is probably contraction for Magdelina. Surname could be Herr
or Ham
#208 - First name could be John or Job. Surname could be Koplenstram, among
other things.
#209 - Surname definitely begins with "B" and ends with "l"-maybe Belentl
#211 - Not sure of the first letter in first name being a "J", it is definitely
not like the "J's" in the 2 passengers listed above him and the one
below him, but there is little doubt about the follow on letters being
"acob".
#213 to #215 - surname maybe Jermeniger
#216 and #217 - Surname could be Kenny or other names as well. The first and
last letters - K and y are definite, but the letters between are
unresolvable.
#218 - Occupation is a ditto mark below "wife"-this is an obvious mistake as
this he is listed as a "m" for male and has a male first name.
#219 - The "S" in the first letter is different than the capital S in the
passenger above this one The surname could be Datyler and a few other
things as well
#221 - First name might be Herrmasin or Herrmannn.
#223 - The surname is almost impossible to even guess at - looks like it may
start with an E-and is a very short surname with only 3 more letters.
#224 - Other than the first letter in the first name the other letters are
impossible to read.
#225 - the "i" in Oppenheim maybe imagined by the transcriber.
#226 - Surname could be Vorrdty
#227 - Surname could be Bertcher or Bertchen
#228 - First name maybe an abbreviation. Surname starts with "B" and ends with
"hope" and could be Boosnhope.
#234-#235 - Surname could be Landres
#236 - First name could be Balitti. Surname could be Haiss or Heise or Heiss.
#237 & #238 - Surname could be many things - possibly Amann.
#242 - Fist name could be Cara or Casa, i.e. the third letter is uncertain.
#248 - First name is uncertain. Bra of the surname is certain, the rest is a
guess, but probably ends with "n".
#249 & #250 - Surname maybe Tierney. First letter of first name is uncertain,
name could be Kund.
#253 - First name is questionable, maybe Anders. Sex is blank or whited out.
#259 - Surname is v. difficult to interpet, Starts with Ba and the rest are a
series on bumps.
#260 - Surname maybe Jachmann. First name definitely begins with a C and has 3
more letters that are undecipherable-name ends with a character that
maybe a "p" with anunusual mark above and to the left of the letter.
#261 - First name is difficult to interpret, may end with "ann".
#263 to #266 - Surname maybe Fassle
