Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder not the transcriber,
or is used to call attention to additional inforamtion in the transcriber notes.
Question marks replace illegible information or letters.
The pages on this film are not numbered so finding a particular ship can be difficult.
However, there appears to be a system of numbering the manifests. These numbers are
included in the identification of the film and reel numbers below.
For passengers bound for San Francisco, passengers' names and ages are followed by a stamp
that varies depending on the disposition of the passenger.
Passengers allowed to land have the following stamp:
Landed Collectors order (blank with a month and day date written in) 1894 by Insp's (blank
for a name, in this case Grant). Not all of the dates are legible.
Passengers not allowed to land have one of two different stamps:
Landing Refused Habeas Corpus U.S.D.C. Case followed by a number. These passengers were probably
allowed to land, but not to freely enter the country. The National Archives should have
a file for these passengers describing what happened to them.
Landing Refused Departed Per Steamer ______ (name of ship) _________ (date).
For passengers bound for a further port there are two possible dispositions:
Landed "I.T." Transit List followed by a number
Departed Per Steamer ______ (name of ship) _________ (date)
The following columns had no entries and are not included in the table:
Height
Complexion
Color of Eyes
Physical Marks or Peculiarities and Facts of Identification
Occupation is universally recorded as Merchant or Grocer because following the Chinese
Exclusion Act of May 6, 1882 admission was denied to all Chinese except laborers already
in the US and "students, teachers, merchants or those proceeding to the United States from
curiosity." Occupation is listed as Grocer for all male passengers.
Champerico is on the Pacific coast of Guatemala. Salina Cruz is on the Pacific coast of Mexico.
Callao is the port for Lima, Peru.
1 Above the Alameda entry for Last Residence "Alvarado" is written.
2 There is a note under the stamp most of which is illegible. "Dupont St" is all
that is legible. Usually such a note refers to the woman's husband as either being with
her or waiting for her and some Chinese words that are probably his name and store name.
3 Fort Smith is described as in Arkansas.
29 Something is written under the "Landed" stamp that begins "to S.S." Perhaps
it refers to the Oceanic.
32 There is a note under the stamp most of which is illegible. "Sacramento St" is all
that is legible. Usually such a note refers to the woman's husband as either being with
her or waiting for her and some Chinese words that are probably his name and store name.
33 The age of this passenger is difficult to read. Only a 2 is legible. Since the
recapitulation refers to a girl among the San Francisco passengers, she probably is 2
years old. There is a note under the stamp all of which is illegible. Usually such a
note refers to the femle's husband or father as either being with her or waiting for her
and some Chinese words that are probably his name and store name.
39 Last Residence is North San Jose.
42 There is a note: "with her husband No 47 Goo Kin Tung Wo Dupont St."
43 There is a note: "with her husband No 49 Goo Ning Tung Wo Dupont St."
44 There is a note: "with her husband No 51 Chun Wan Tung Wo Dupont St."
50-54, 61-76 are described as departing per SSPR, probably Southern Pacific RR.
