Transcriber's notes:
* The use of an * indicates an ommission or error made by the
original recorder or comment by the transcriber.
? The use of a ? indicates a word or letter(s) that could not
be read, due to quality of the original document.
^ Indicates the word may be abbreviated or that superscript was
used for the following letter or letters.
General notes:
* The writer of this manifest used ditto marks for the occupation
of all members of a single family. These have been transcribed
as written/dittoed, which sometimes had unusual results (e.g. an
infant shoemaker, a female tinman). Use care when interpreting
the occupation.
* The writer usually abbreviated 'part of the vessel' as U D for
Upper Deck and L D for Lower Deck.
* At the end of the transcript are the following notes in a
different hand, presumably these are passenger count summaries:
cab 2
inf 24 UpDk 459
mid 8_52_26
inf 16 LoDk 381
mid 8_46_23
Notes for Specific Passenger:
Passenger #713 - Last name appears to be Carly, but could be
Carty. There is no loop in the 4th letter, and there is a
line above the 'y' that could be an attempt to cross a 't'.
Passenger #728 - Last name appears to be Ecteston or
Eetestoon or Eeleston or Ecleston. Both the 3rd and 6th
letters ('t' and 't' or 'l' and 't') are crossed in a
single line, but the first one is looped while the 2nd
is not.
Passenger #743 - Rachael was female rather than male.
Passenger #749 - Julia's age is blotched, but looks like it
might be 24.
Passenger #751 - Joseph Flynn has a ditto under "Occupation
from Julia Kelly's occupation of Seamstress.
Passenger #760 - Francis is listed as Upper Deck (via ditto
marks) children are listed as Lower Deck.
Passenger #762 - The first letter looks like a T with a small
raised 'c' right before the T. It is possible the first
name is Terecia, but the first letter also looks like the
first letter in passenger 664. The last letter looks like
this writer's 'd', but could be an 'a' .
Passenger #764 - The letters in question could be 'urr'
or 'un'.
Passenger #766 - The letter in question was written over.
It appears to be either an 'h' or a 'k', making the last
name either Husekberg or Husehberg.
Passenger #778 - William was most likely male rather than
female, writer used ditto marks from mother's gender.
Passenger #781-782 - Passenger 843-born on board to these parents.
Passenger #800 - Last name appears to be either Ceine or Cline
(with a very short 'l').
Passenger #812 - Last name appears to be either Beils or Berls
(dot for the 'i' was not evident.)
Passenger #815 - Last name appears to be eithre Noetin or
Noelin. 4th letter is looped, but there is a line over
the 'i' that may have been an attempt to cross a 't'. See
also 827-828.
Passenger #834-835 - Last name looks like Nocton, but could be
Norton. See aksi 807.
Passenger #841-842 - Occupation rows should be combined to read
'Going to their Father' (writer misspelled 'father').
Passenger #843 - Parents are passengers 781 and 782.
