Transcriber's Notes:

Pages 70-72 and 74-75 on this film all appear to be the same ship. They are all
written on an old form that is not used for other ships of this time period.
They are all written in the same hand. They all are initialed GHB in the lower
right hand corner. The first page has the captain's signature at the top of the
page, although not written in any of the blanks where it should be written. The
name of the ship is also not written at the top of the first page where it should
be; neither is the date. However, at the top of the third page "Australia Apr 20,
1895" is written.

Page 78 of the film is titled SS Australia sailing from Honolulu, arriving
April 20, 1895. On page 78 are listed what appear to be the names of the steerage
passengers on the previous pages (70-72, 74-75) who were not US citizens. There
are a number of notes for the passengers listed on page 78 that refer to pages 74
and 75. It therefore seems probable that pages 70-72, 74-75 are indeed a list of
the passengers on the Australia from Honolulu to San Francisco, arriving April 20,
1895. Page 78 is transcribed below.

None of the blanks in the Captain's statement are completed except the burthen.
The captain's name is written at the top of the page, however. There are no
appropriate entries in the last three columns: Intended Destination, Location
of Compartment and Died on Voyage. There are some amounts of money entered in
the Intended Destination column for some steerage passengers. Other manifests
of this period have a column for the amount of money the passenger has.

At the bottom of page 75 is a "recapitulation"- Cabin 65, Steerage 53, Total 118-
signed H.C. Houdlette.

Below is the transcription of page 78.
