Transcriber's Notes:
The use of an * indicates an omission or error by the orignial recorder.
The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read due to the
quality of the original document.
In the sworn statement the four *'s represent blanks that were not filled in
by the recorder.
Next to the "Sworn to" statement there is also an illegible scrawl of initials.
The word following the captain's signature in the "List or Manifest" line could
be "Master"
The original recorder used the same symbol for the letters "S", "L" and "J" in
particular, making it difficult to determine the correct spelling of a name.
This was the case for passengers 8, 13,15,19, 21
Passengers 14, 15, 21,22 and 33 where "sgl" for single was written, in each case
the letter "F" (for female?)was written over "sgl".
Passengers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,11,16, and 18 the occupation "workm" probably
represents "workman"
Passenger Notes:
4 the question mark could be a "g" or a "j"
6 the question mark could be a "g" or a "j"
8 the first letter of the surname could be and "S" or an "L"
9's occupation, the fourth letter could be a "d" and it appears that the rest
of the word is lost in a tear at a fold in the original document. The tear
also affects the beginning of the name of the country of origin. The country
might be Oldenburg but this is a guess based on the ending of the word
visible and passenger 31's country of origin.
10's country of origin is just a ditto mark and therefore not legible due to
the tear in that column for passenger 9, the country could be Oldenburg but
this is a guess based on the ending of the word and passenger 31's country
of origin.
13 the question mark is written identically to the "S" in Segal but the original
recorder also uses this symbol for "L's"
15 the first letter of the given name could be an "S" or an "L"
19 the first letter of the given name could be a "B" or an "R"
21 the first letter of the given name could be an "S" or an "L"
22 the first letter of the surname could be an "S" or an "L"
23 the question mark could be a "z', "g' or "j"
34 the first question mark could be an "e' or an "l", the second two question
marks look like "ch" or "ck"
