Transcriber's Notes:
* An asterisk indicates an error on the part of the original recorder, not
the transcriber, or is used to call your attention to additional information
in the transcriber's notes.
? Indicates a letter or number which could not be determined due to the
condition of the manifest or handwriting of the original recorder.
* There was no column for indicating gender and the passengers have been
renumbered by the transcriber of this list. The original did not number the
babies under one year of age called suckling (child).
Passenger Notes:
# 1 - Surname has an umlaut over the "o"
# 2 - Suckling child--no surname listed; presumably belongs to the family
listed above it.
#19 - Name is almost obliterated on original as are the columns for last
residence and destination. Name looks like it begins with a P and
perhaps is Prospch.
#20 - Surname is almost obliterated on original as are the columns for last
residence and destination.
#55 - Surname difficult to decipher; looks like Heimbuchel
#56 - Surname has an umlaut over the "u"
#57-#58 - Surname has four letters, may be Veit.
#69-#74 - Surname has an umlaut over the "a"
#76-#77 - Given names are obliterated by a tear or hole in the original. #76
begins with a Cat(h) and is probably Catherine. #77 is Georg??--probably
just Georg (a common German name). #77 also has a ditto mark, indicating
that it is the same surname as the line above.
#84 - Because the last letter is clipped or shortened, it may be a "t" or "l"
thus the name could be Schwal, or Schwat.
#94-#95 - Surname has an umlaut over the second "a"
Correspondence 02/12/2005 passengers #45-50 Deutsch
Heinrich, son of Philipp Dieter and Anna Maria (WALTHER) DEUTSCH, was
born 16 Dec 1825 in Edenkoben, Pfalz, Bayern, Germany. Katharina,
daughter of Peter and Anna Maria (SCHWARZ) KLOSS, was born 12 Oct
1825 in Landstuhl, Pfalz, Bayern, Germany. Heinrich and Katharina
were married in Sankt Andreas Katholisch Church on 13 Dec 1851.
Children: Heinrich (b Jun 1854, died young, in Germany), Katharina
(1852-1929), Anton (1856-1921), Heinrich David (1858-1875), Mary
Margaretha (1861-1918), and Anna (1863-1952).
Based on the passenger list for the "Adolphine", I believe Heinrich
immigrated to the U.S. about 1865, but Katharina and their 5
remaining children immigrated from Germany on the ship "Adolphine",
which arrived from Bremen on 13 Jan 1868. The whole family settled in
Breese, Clinton County, Illinois.
Heinrich's final citizenship papers were issued in Nov 1870, and have
been passed down in the family since then. In 1870, their 7th child,
Mary C., was born. Heinrich was a house painter, as was his son,
Anton , his grandson, Frederick (1997-1950), and his great grandson (living).
Heinrich and Katharina (KLOSS) DEUTSCH are my GG grandparents.
