Simmendinger Register M-Z
Simmendinger Register A-L
This register was originally prepared by Ulrich Simmendinger after his return to Germany from the colonies, where he had been part of the Palatine migration for seven years. The names given are all who were living in 14 early New York settlements at the time of his departure in 1717. It is assumed most of these were passengers of a fleet of 10 ships (names of ships unknown), 3000 people, leaving England January 1710.

added 20 September 2011 - Windecker In reference to the Simmendinger Register M-Z, passenger Hartmann Windecker, his wife Barbara and 5 children are ancestors of mine. Hartmann Windecker is actually Johann Hartmann Windecker (son of Nicolaus Windecker and Anna Elisabetta Stroh), born in Germany Nov 5 1676. According to records, he served as List Master aboard the vessel “Hartwell” en route to the US in 1910 following the death of the original List Master. He served in the US military and both he and his family settled in Montgomery Cty., New York, USA. Hartmann obtained a patent for 2,000 acres of land on the south side of the Mohawk River in 1731. Fort Windecker, a small fort utilized during the American Revolution, was located on Hartmann’s property. Hartmann died Mar 28 1754 in Montgomery Cty., New York, USA. According to records, Hartmann’s first wife, Anna Catherina Birxen (1680-1710), died on board en route to the US. His second wife Barbara, whom he married in 1710 in West Camp, New York, USA, was actually Barbara Elisabetha Bellinger (1694-1753) and the children indicated were Anna Catherina b. 1704 and Johann Henrich b. 1708. At the time of Simmendinger’s departure from the early New York Settlements in 1717, Hartmann and Barbara had 3 other children: Johannes 1711-1795 Johann Henrich 1711-? Johann Georg(e) 1715- ? Hope this information may be helpful to others. Sincerely, Lisa Gabriele Correspondence 18 January 2003 passengers Schreiber I believe Albertus Schreiber was my ancestor . He arrived in 1710 aboard 1 of 6 ship's (names unknown) and settled in Haysbury. His wife was a Eva Lauermann (possibly mispelled). Albert B. Schryver (spelling changed)
Ulrich Simmendinger was born in 1672 in the city of Reutlingen which is some twenty miles south of Stuttgart in the Province of Wurtemberg, Germany. His occupation is unknown. He married Anna Maria Schnabel of Cannstatt, a town near Stuttgart. They had two children.
Simmendinger departed for England with his wife and children on July 31, 1709 being attracted to America by the promises of William Penn's Quaker agents, who sought colonists for the newly established commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
In 1710 the Queen, getting pressure from the parties in England, felt it necessary to restrict emigration from Germany. A group of Germans, including the Simmendinger family landed in England after waiting several weeks for permission to cross the Channel. It is here that the two Simmendiger children died. It is assumed that he and his wife were among the 3,000 Palatines who sailed from London in a fleet of ten ships in January, 1710. On this voyage some 480 passengers died and one vessel was wrecked on the American coast. The voyage took six months. After reaching New York they were quarantined for five months on Nutten (now Governor's) Island where 250 more succumbed to ship's fever and 84 orphaned children were apprenticed.
The names appearing here may also be found in the Ration Lists of Governor Hunter, in the Colonial Census of 1710, and at least two in the List of Apprenticed Children, 1710-1714.
Original found in the New York Public Library in 1926, now public record. Photostat copies can be had by addressing the New York Library. It consists of 24 pages, printed in German.
