Transcribers Notes :
* This Manifest was typed, but is a poor copy.
* There are 36 columns, some have sub columns, like column 11, place of
birth, which has sub columns for Country and City or town.
* All ?'s in the list of columns have a word or words that are blurred
or too small to read (as in column 3: "Able to-" read, the ? middle
  column, write.)

Passenger information:
* Relatives names that a passenger was to visit, are on the line above
  passenger's name.
* Line numbering: line 1 is the passenger, the space above is relative
visiting, is "name and complete address of nearest relative or friend
  in country whence alien came".
* The use of an * indicates an ommission or error made by the origional
  recorder.
* The use of a ? indicates a word or letters could not be read, due to
the poor quality of my copy, though it was typed.
* Dates of sailing from and Arriving at, are recorded as typed
1 Surname may be Lo Jacomo or Lo Jacono. Given name looks to be Carmelo,
Carmklo, or Carmkio. Place of birth is not clear in column 11, place of
birth, but is clearer in column 17, name and address of nearest Relative.
2 Given name is either Elisa or Elesa, Place of birth not clear in
column 11 but clear in column 17.
3 Column 3, able to read, write have a Y (yes) written over no
    that is typed for both.
4 M in column 6, maried or single is incorrect, passenger was single.
Indecipherable: letter after pasport, a line was drawn through the
questionable number. Column 23 whether going to visit a relative or
friend... has the word home on the line above line 4, and the address on
    line 4.
5 Name (of nearest relative of country of origin) above line, may be Sofia.
The letter C in Concetta (sister) typed above the other letters. Written
slightly below rest of line: N.Y.C. 282 E. 15o str.
6 Wife's surname looks like Fuscara or Fuseara. First column Muscara has an
accent next to last A in name, other notations of the name accents above
the last a seem to be added by hand. Letter L in column 7, calling or
occupation, is slightly above rest of letters. Column 11, city or town of
birth, Acieacastello, is clearer than column 17.
7 Passenger's given name may be Sebaselano or Sebastiano. Column 11, city
or town of birth, Acieacastello, is clearer than column 17. Column 22,
928 N.Y. through to the end of the line is typed lower than the rest of
    this line.

Teresa Ficano Lo Pinto is my bisnonna, or great grandmother. We recently
found out she was born 14 Nov 1848, and died 31 Dec 1941, in Begheria
Sicily, Italy. Her parents were Giovanni (1808) and Antonina Maggiore
(1816) Ficano. Her husband, Francesco Lo Pinto was in the Bersagleria
of the Italian Military. Each of her three sons were born in different
comunes (towns), which makes me wonder if she followed her husband on
his tours of duty(?). All of her sons came to the US, Giovanni, my
nonno (grandfather) in 1899, with his wife Anna, my nonna. Federico
came in July 1900; we don't know if he came alone or with his wife. Her
youngest, Guiseppe came at age 15, in September 1900, possibly with his
father and mother. Giovanni was a doctor, trained in Naples, Federico
was a Pharmacist, also trained in Italy while Giuseppe became a
Pharmasist in the US. We know little of Giuseppe, other than that he
  married Elisa Somma between 1908-1913.
In the 1910 NYC census, Teresa is listed at her son's residence on
Mulberry St, as a language teacher. She was 62 and a widow. There is
no notation as to how long she had been in the country. Giovanni and
Anna were listed as living here 10 years. Stories indicate that Teresa
was a very strong willed woman. For those times, she was a true
matriarch and felt free to assert herself with her husband and sons!
(This could be because her family were well to do, owners of large olive
groves.) My father's sisters recalled their visits to Italy, and staying
in what they called "the Mansion", with its many beautifully furnished
rooms. We know she often took one of her 5 grand children to Italy for
the summer, and returned with them.
On this particular trip (SS Vulcania), she was returning from Italy with
her granddaughter Rose, age 9, my father's younger sister. Thus far we
know of 4 trips, 1900 (the EMS, lists her as Giovanna), in 1913
(SS Cincinnati, lists her visiting her husband Giovanni), and 1929
(this ship). Her last voyage was made in 1939, at age 91! (don't have
this ship - yet!) We are still searching for those other trips. We
assume she left Italy out of Naples, rather than Palermo, because she
had family and / or friends there. Teresa noted a brother, Rosario,
living in Naples on a previous ships manifest, and in Palermo on this one.
