AFFIDAVIT OF THE MASTER OR COMMANDING OFFICER,
OR FIRST OR SECOND OFFICER

I, Cap Ettore Zar, Master, of the "Presidente Wilson" from Trieste, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that I have caused the surgeon of said vessel sailing therewith, or the surgeon employed by the owners thereof, to make a physical and mental examination of each and all of the aliens named in the foregoing Lists or Manifest Sheets, thirty in number, and that from the report of said surgeon and from my own investigation, I believe that no one of said aliens is of any of the classes excluded from admission into the United States by section three of the Immigration Act, and that also, according to the best of my knowledge and belief, the information in said Lists or Manifests concerning each of said aliens named therein is correct and true in every respect.

ALL ALIENS arriving at a port of continental United States from a foreign port or a port of the insular possessions of the United States, and all aliens arriving at a port of said insular possessions from a foreign port, a port of continental United States, or a port of another insular possession, in whatever class they travel, MUST be fully listed and the master or commanding officer of each vessel carrying such passsengers must upon arrival deliver lists thereof to the immigration officer. Transcriber's Notes:  

* The use of an * indicates an error or omission made by the 
  original recorder, or to call attention to a note for 
  that passenger.
* The use of a ? indicates a word or letter that cannot be read, 
  due to the quality of the original document.
* Passenger numbers do not appear on manifest, but are added by 
  the transcriber to assist in identifying passengers on the same ship. 
* Commas have been added between surname and family name for easier
  reading.
* The names of localities have been transposed, e.g. Milwaukee 
  Wisconsin, rather than Wisconsin Milwaukee as originally written.
* The "e" on the typewriter was dirty and illegible, but is deduced
  to be an "e" by its use in words such as "none", "brother" and "wife".
* The second column, "Head-Tax Status" is blank except in cases 
  where the passenger was under 16, in which case the stamp "Under 
  16" appears.
* At bottom of first page, after Passenger 274:  Total passengers:
  29; U.S. citizens: 0 Aliens: 29 *Permanent residence within the 
  meaning of tis manifest shall be actual or intended residence of 
  one year or more.

* 246: Note different spellings of localities: Segojzano 
       and Segonzano, Russel Guochi and Russel Gultsch 
* 254: First letter of surname could be P or B; second
       letter could be i; Pinna, Rinna
* 255: Since line is drawn through all information, this passenger
       was most likely not on board.  This is supported by the fact
       that though there are thirty entries on this page, the total
       at bottom is 29.  The first letter of the surname could be P
       or B, and fourth letter may be a d; P??delli; B??delli; the
       first name could be Anne or Anna.
* 258: Note difference in spelling of residence and birthplace;
       Smikofa, Smokiva; they are also different from what appears
       to be the same locality in mother's and sibling's entries(Smokica).

Reviewer's Notes:
 
All passengers have numbers, such as 4-3626 or 4-1626, written in the language coloumn. 
This means that they were tested for their reading ability. The first number represents a 
number for a certain language, the other numbers are a number for a certain sentence.

If you find an ancestor on a ship on ISTG and would like to link to your email address or home page, please submit a short paragraph about the passenger, where settled, children, etc., with the name of the ship and date of arrival, and send to the transcriber at the bottom of the manifest or to the ISTG Production Coordinator.

We strive to make your search productive. If you don't find the passenger list you are looking for on our site, please consider a subscription to Ancestry.com. There, you can locate your ancestors ship, passenger list, view and save a copy of the original list. You can also access census data and death records to help you in your search. Census records, and in particular the 1930 census, is one of the most easily used tools for beginners and seasoned genealogists alike.
