I, James Funck, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest of Passengers, subscribed with my name, and now delivered to the Collector of Customs for the District of New York, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the Ship William Tell whereof I am Master, from Havre (Signed) James Funck Sworn to this 27 June 1854 Before me (signed) C.P. Clun, Jr.
List or Manifest of ALL THE PASSENGERS taken on board the American Ship Wm. Tell whereof James Funck is Master, from Havre burthen 1,153 59/95 tons.
Columns represent: Name, Age, Sex, Occupation, Country to which they severally belong, Country of which they intend to become inhabitants. In this instance, the Captain listed the occupation of each and every passenger, including infants, as farmer, so this column was eliminated. All passengers were destined for the United States, so this column was eliminated.

Passenger #403 is Georg Simon Strobel, born 25 May 1783 in Schonbrun,
Wurttemberg, Germany, father Johan Bernard Strobel, mother Ana Eva. He
married #404 who is Ana Elisabeth Hohenstein, born 4 May 1797 in
Satteldorf, Wurttemberg, Germany 14 September 1823 father Georg Michael
Hohenstein, mother Eva Maria Lenz. #405 is their daughter Margaretta
Barbara Strobel, born 28 July 1836 in Satteldorf, Germany and married
1st Georg Bruckner and 2nd John Kohl, both in Jefferson County, WI. The
family emigrated to Jefferson County, WI but I do not have death
dates for the parents. Georg Simon and Ana Elisabeth's son Georg Frederick
Strobel b 27 July 1824 in Satteldorf, Germany, married 1 December 1854 in
Ft. Atkinson, Jefferson County, WI to Anna Barbara Lange b 17 March 1838
in Schirnding, Bavaria, Germany, my husband's ancestor.
Georg Frederick came earlier on a different ship, date and name of ship
unknown. I would be most interested in sharing information with anyone
researching these families.

appears as passenger 497, Beckert, Maria, age 25, also of Baden.
1. WENDELIN1 ERNE was born Abt. 1820 in Switzerland, and
died Abt. 1884 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio. He married
APPOLLONIA MARIA BECKERT. She was born Abt. 1829, and died
in Saint Vincent's Hospital, Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.

SHIP WILLIAM TELL According to comtemporary New York newspapers, the packet sailing ship, WILLIAM TELL, Funk master, arrived at New York on 27 June, from Havre 21 May, with merchandise and 618 passengers, to Boyd and Hincken, "llth (instant), lat 42 35 lon 51, saw a large iceberg".
The WILLIAM TELL was a 3-masted, square-rigged sailing ship, built by Westervelt and Mackey in 1850. 1153 tons; 175 ft x 10 in x 29 ft 2 in (length x beam x depth of hold) She sailed in Boyd & Hinken's "Second Line" of packets between New York and LeHavre from 1850 to 1862, during which time the average of her westward passage was 36 days, her shortest being 25 days, her longest 60 days (Robert Greenhalgh Albion, -Square Riggers on Schedule; The New York Sailing Packets to England, France, and the Cotton Ports-Princeton: Princeton University Press, 1938, p.286).
