Transcriber's Notes:
There is no sworn statement on this list.
The passengers are not numbered on the original manifest. The numbers were added for
transcription purposes.
* A column for Deaths has been eliminated as there were none on this part of the list.
A column, Country of which they intend to become inhabitants, has been omitted because
all the entries say U.S.
The occupation Farmer was written only next to passengers #1,47,88,129,and 172. Those
passengers represent the first adult male passenger on each page. All of the other
passengers listed as Farmer have dittos in the occupation column that carry that
occupation down from the top of the page.
Question marks represent letters or numbers that cannot be identified with certainty. Where
possible, they are described in these notes.
Where there is more than one possible interpretation of a surname, the most likely one is
listed above and alternate names are listed in the notes below.
Many of the given names on this list are abbreviated using superscript letters. Those
letters are separated from the main part of the name by the symbol ^. First name
suggestions for some of those abbreviations are included at the bottom of this page.
* Passenger #3, the superscript appears to be g or y.
* Passengers #4,5,6, surname could be Janne.
* Passengers #11,12,13,14, the ? probably is an O. The surname may be Oeschenbath.
* Passenger #15, surname could be Baner or Baaer.
* Passenger #18, I believe the letter represented by the question mark is an i, though it
is not dotted. It is possible it is an s or c. The surname could be Beik, Beck or Besk.
* Passenger #19, the ? may represent an e or r.
* Passenger #20, this name may be Eloacsser.
* Passenger #21, the superscript letter following And is not clear. It may be an s.
* Passengers #22,87, the ? is n or u.
* Passengers #25, the ? probably represents an O. The name may be Oeltle.
* Passenger #36, the name may be Eisenbrun or Eisenbeun.
* Passenger #40, the given name may be Jacob, though if it is, the c and o are badly
formed since they look more like an n. The end letter is either b or l.
* Passenger #41, the first ? could be an r or a very angular e. The ? between the i and
the ch represents a very low, small hump that could be the result of the writer's hand
getting jarred. This name may be Trioplich.
* Passenger #44, there was another age written under the one shown, possibly 52.
* Passenger #45, the 1 in the age was written over another number that could be a 2.
* Passenger #47, the age was first written as 46, then changed to 36.
* Passenger #48, there is a crossed out 6 next to the 4 in the age column. This is
probably a 4 year old child rather than a forty-something year old.
* Passenger #49, the age may be 2. There are two digits in the age column. The ? to the
right represents a crossed-out 6. The ? to the left looks like a 2 that was written
over another number, possibly a 5.
* Passenger #50, the ? in the age column represents either a 1 or a 2. I think a 1 was
written over a 2 though it is not clear which one is on top.
* Passengers #51,52, the y in the surname is a superscript leading me to believe that Heny
is an abbreviation for a longer name. This is the only surname on the list that is
abbreviated.
* Passenger #52, the ? in the given name may be r. The ? in the age column may be a 6 or
8, though it is difficult to determine with certainty as there are at least two numbers
that have been written over each other.
* Passenger #65, the ? looks almost like an r with two exaggerated points. Since there
are several passengers with the surname Messner both above, and below this one, I think
it is also possible that this may be a poorly written version of that name.
* Passenger #75, surname is either Hortz or Hoitz.
* Passenger #91, the ? represents either a t with a flourish at the base of it, or an h
whose hump is very small and cramped, so the name is either Bertt or Berth.
* Passenger #92, surname could be Grunewold.
* Passengers #103,117, it is impossible to know for certain whether the letter represented
by the ? is an n or u.
* Passenger #137, the ? may be c or e. Possible given names include Jacques.
* Passenger #145, the ? is an r or s.
* Passengers #150,151, the ? may be an r, so the name may be Frinden.
* Passenger #155, this surname could be interpreted to end with a kind of crossed h, which
was used in other places on this manifest as a superscript to represent th, therefore
the name could be Walth.
* Passenger #158, the surname could be Berki.
* Passenger #178, the surname may be Droz. The letter or letters following the E in the
given name are not clearly distinguished. They are a series of three sharp peaks that
could represent m or in, though there is no dot to indicate an i.
* Passenger #185, this name could be Hangg.
