Transcriber's Notes:
The use of an * indicates an omission or error made by the original
recorder.
The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read, due
to quality of original document.
The use of a ^ indicates the following letter or letters are
superscript
* Country in which they intend to become inhabitants: all are going to
the United States, therefore, this column has been eliminated
* Died on the voyage: no one is listed as died, therefore, this column
has been eliminated HOWEVER: there are multiple entries that are
crossed out. They may not have been on the voyage. But as some are
husbands of families with children and, in one instance, a child, I
think it more likely that these people died on the voyage and the
listmaker did not enumerate the deaths as instructed.
* Part of the vessel occupied: Noted by this transcriber at the
beginning of each section of names, therefore, this column has been
eliminated
NOTE: People of the same surname are not necessarily listed together.
Look for people of same surname on this and other pages of this
vessel's transcription.
NOTE: This ship can be found on the Direct Hamburg Emmigration List
which contains more complete information on the passengers' previous
residence. In some cases the penmanship is clearer or there is a
slightly different spelling. Also, when the LDS microfilm was made
some pages were omitted and other duplicated. The passesngers are not
in the same order on the two lists.
? Deputy Collector: illegible scrawl
* Passenger #616: long thick line drawn through entire entry
? Passenger #628: no visible entry for age other than 6 but it is
atypical that a 6 year old is listed with an occupation.
Either the age is 16, 26, etc. or Andreas is the 6 year
old son of Marie which seems unlikely considering her age
* Passenger #634: thick line drawn through number and age
* Passenger #644: o in Jorgensen with umlaut
? Passenger #650-665: country to which they severally belong contains
symbol of unknown meaning; it is not the mark used as a
ditto. It appears as a script lower case "u" with a
whip-like line in front and behind. Preceding entry is
Switzerland. In the following entry Germany has been
crossed out and Switzerland inserted
* Passenger #663: a in Scharen with umlaut
* Passenger #666-692S: Germany crossed out and Switzerland inserted
* Passenger #669: phonetically like Hildebrandt or Hildebrant
? Passenger #670: possibly smid (smith)
* Passenger #675: thick line drawn through number and age
* Passenger #687: u in Muller with umlaut: Mueller
* Passenger #693-701: United States crossed out and Germany inserted
* Passenger #701: u in Grunthaler with umlaut: Gruenthaler
? Passenger #701: Jas. or Jos.
* Passenger #710: u in Wutrich with umlaut: Wuetrich
* Passenger #732: Franz
* Passenger #734: u in Nurnberger with umlaut: Nuernberger
* Passenger #736: phonetically like Haverstraw
? Passenger #745-746: four short upstrokes; possibly Jung
? Passenger #747: three short upstrokes
? Passenger #752: four short upstrokes; possibly Arnauer
* Passenger #753: o in Koppel with umlaut: Koeppel
? Passenger #756-764: see transcriber's notes for passengers #650-665
* Passenger #759: thick line drawn through number and age
? Passenger #762: part of paper missing; probably baby but cannot detect
any sign of the usual "her" preceding
* Passenger #779: u in Muller with umlaut: Mueller
* Passenger #781: phonetically like Ebersole
? Passenger #789: possibly Bansoart
? Passenger #791: not listed as Andreas; Meger or Meyer
? Passenger #792: Luthg or Luthy
* Passenger #801: thick line drawn through number and age
? Passenger #817: no apparent entry
? Passenger #828: four short upstrokes
? Passenger #828: part of paper missing; looks most like miller
* Passenger #834: u in Kruger with umlaut: Krueger
? Passenger #839: part of paper missing, starts with m but is shorter than
merchant in previous entry
* Passenger #842: thick line drawn through number, first initial and age
? Passenger #842: first initial obscured by line, possibly H; surname ends
in 6 short upstrokes
* Passenger #848: entire entry crossed out
