RMS Teutonic
I, Peter John Irving, Master of the R.M.S. "Teutonic" do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said vessel at Liverpool and Queenstown, from which port said vessel has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the calling of each of said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the last residence and country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement so far as it can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. So help me God.
Sworn to this 27 May 1891, before me John (surname cannot be read)

Transcriber's notes:
* The use of an * indicates an omission or error made by the
original recorder.
? The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not
be read, due to the quality of the original document.
* On the original manifest, the 983 steerage passengers were
numbered consecutively, after which the 196 second cabin
passengers and the 217 first cabin (saloon) passengers were
each numbered starting again at one. This transcription
numbers all passengers consecutively.
* Abbreviations used in the original document included a colon,
not a period, after some abbreviated first names (e.g. Chas:,
Thos:, etc). In other cases, a few letters of the name or
occupation were left out and the final letter raised with a
period under it. These I have transcribed with an apostrophe
for the missing letters and a period after the last letter
(e.g. Mich'l. for Michael, W'm. for William, Merch't. for
Merchant, Gent'n. for Gentleman)
* Recapitulation: The page is torn, but the missing letters
refer to Saloon, or First Cabin passengers. The captain signed
his name at the end.
1117 - The page is torn. Only a small portion of the top of
the first initial of the given name is visible. It
might be a W
1118 - The given name and part of the surname, which might
be Morris, are torn. The initial might be M, the
second and a possible third letter are missing, and
the next letter may be r
1119 - The initials are unreadable, mostly torn off the page.
The occupation is very faint but might be Manager
1120 - The first letters of the occupation have faded, but it
might be Clerk
1121 - The first initial could be I or J
1122 - The given name, Louie, is clearly written, but perhaps
Louise was meant
1126,1127 - L'don. is probably an abbreviation for London; Ealing
is part of greater London
1128 - The age has faded. What show are two widely separated
1's. Perhaps 44,41 or 14 was meant. The occupation,
also quite faded, is not child which rules out age 11.
It might be farmer. What is visible is the top of what
may be an F, a blank space, part of an r, m, and two
faded letters which do not descend below the line and
are not tall letters. The last residence is faded;
perhaps it is Kent
1129 - The sex, probably female, has faded completely. Only
what looks like an e can be seen in the "calling" column
1131 - Given name is completely faded. Surname may be Morris,
but the two center letters have faded away
1132 - Initial may be I or J. First digit of age has faded
1134-1137 - Given names are too faint to read
1138 - Given name, partially faded, is about 3 letters long.
Third letter descends below the line
1144 - An inkblot obscures part of given name which might be
Mary. 2nd and 3rd letters are not tall and don't
descend below the line. The last letter does descend
below the line.
1145 - The last residence could be a misspelling of Manningham,
in West York
1146 - Given name might be Rhoda. First two letters are partly
faded
1169 - Given name is torn off
1170 - Given name and part of surname, which might be Walsh,
is torn off. Only the very top of the right-hand stroke
of the first initial shows. The next letter looks like
the top half of an a.
1171 - Given name and top part of some surname letters are
torn off. First letter could be M or N; third
letter h or n
1172 - Queenstown, in County Cork, has been renamed Cobh
1179 - Given name may be Marie or Maria. The faded surname
looks about four letters long. The third letter may be
r, the fourth y.
1180,1181 - The calling has faded, but first letter may be W or U.
Perhaps Wife?
1194 - An inkblot covers part of the given name which is
probably Richard. Surname same as 1195
1195 - The middle initial looks like a lower case l or might
be C.Surname might begin with a J; only the upper
portion is visible. Next letter might be o or part
of the first letter if it is not J. The next letters
before "ell" are unreadable.
1196 - There is no colon indicating that Hy is an abbreviation,
but I think it might be, for Henry
1203 - Rac: might be an abbreviation of Rachel
1206 - Ther: might be an abbreviation of Theresa
1210,1212 - The questioned initial in both cases may be A or H
1219 - The given name is torn off the page
1220,1221 - Most of the name has been torn off the page
1222 - The first part of the given name is torn off
1227 - Also written in the baggage column, above the 4, is
"1 dog"
1228 - The surname could be Dutilth or Dutillh. The missing
letter could be an l with no loop, or a t with no crossbar.
1230 - The surname is most likely Rademacher. The letter is
partially faded
1231 - The given name, partially faded, may be Robert
1241 - The middle initial may have been crossed out with a
heavy vertical stroke, or it might be an extremely
heavy stroke which is part of the initial. The
initial might be V
1245 - The given name has been torn off
1246 - The given name is torn at the fourth letter, which
descends below the line. If a four-letter name, it
could be Mary. If longer, Marg't. may be a possibility.
1247 - Part of the given name is torn. The missing letters
don't descend below the line. The last letter may be e.
1250 - Could this be a transposition of names? Perhaps Harvey
Holstein?
1254 - The calling is probably broker. The missing letters
have faded away.
1271 - Part of the name is torn. Perhaps it is Wooding,
although only the upper third of the surname initial
is visible
1272 - Most of the name is torn off. The next to last letter
of the surname could be a or g. It is torn where it
might have descended below the line.
1273 - The entire name is missing, but this infant probably
belongs to 1272 above. Their baggage is shared
1274 - Given name is torn off
1282 - The questioned letters are quite faded. The surname
initial could be S or P -- Phillaber or Shillaber
1292 - The surname could be Calhoun or Calhown
1298 - The given name is torn. It might have been initials
only, as the top of a tall letter immediately precedes
the surname
1299 - The name is partly torn. It may end in ater, but the
top of the t is torn off, so it could be another letter.
1323-1327 - The questioned initials and names have been torn off
the page, or have been indicated by ditto marks which
refer to a torn-off name
1329 - The second digit of the age it too faded to be read
1334-1335 - These passengers, a husband and wife traveling together
and sharing their baggage, are either not planning to
stay together, or one has been mistakenly listed -- he
as permanent or she as transient.
1341 - "1 dog" is written in the baggage column along with the
4 pieces of baggage
1346 - Surname may be Remnant, Reinnant or Reennant. The
missing letter could be m, with a bit more space between
its first and second downstrokes; or en; or in with no
dot above the i
1350 - The entire name has been torn off
1351 - The given name has been torn off
1352 - The first initial or name has been torn off
1374 - Part of the given name has been torn; it might be Emily
1375 - Most of the name has been torn off
1376 - The name and part of the calling are torn off. The
calling may be Gent'n
1377,1378 - The questioned letters have been ripped off. The
first occupation may be Gent'n. These passengers
appear to have been traveling with #1379 through
1381, as their baggage is combined. They may share
one of those surnames
1379-1381 - The questioned initial has been torn off. These
passengers appear to have been traveling with #1377
and 1378, as their baggage is combined. Some of them
may share the same surnames
