I, A Snow do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that
the following List or Manifest of Passengers, subscribed with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New York, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the Ship Telamon whereof I am Master, from Liverpool. * Since all passengers are from Ireland and intend to inhabit
the United States, these columns have been eliminated.
* There were no deaths noted in death column therefore, it
has been eliminated.
* Passengers #1 through #89 are listed as Farmers. No
occupation is listed for any passenger beyond #89. Therefore,
the Occupation column has been eliminated.
* In reading the Captain's calculations on the final page of
the manifest, there is an indication that two persons died
during the voyage. There is no indication as to which
passengers he was referring to.
Passenger # 1- 8 John McRendon, et al, could be McReirden
Passenger # 16 Thomas W??????, could be Thomas Walton Wood
which would make him a member of the Wood
family immediately preceding him. Surname
could also be Wallais, Wallass, Walton,
Wallars, Walters, Wollars. If Passenger
# 16 is Thomas Walton Wood, then #17, #18,
#19 and #20 would also be members of the
Wood family. The recorder listed families
in descending age order and there is also a
problem reading #16 age, could be 7, could
be 5. 7 would fit in Wood family. 5 would
create another family of children, perhaps
traveling with other adults. I can see no
ditto marks on Passenger #16 surname.
Whatever surname is applied to Passenger #16
also applies to #17, #18, #19 and #20

Correspondence 12/2/00 Passengers 342-346
Thomas HOPKIN(S) and Elizabeth JAQUES were married in Nottinghamshire,
England on 8 October 1851. Shortly thereafter, with Thomas' parents, Richard
and Ann HOPKIN(S), and his younger brother Francis, they sailed from
Liverpool aboard the "TELAMON", landing in NY City on 13 November 1851. They
spent the next several years somewhere in New York state, where daughters
Anna and Celina were born. In 1858 they moved to Michigan, where Harriet,
Mary Jane, Frank and Thomas were born. Around 1868 they made their final
move to a homestead in Butler County, Nebraska.
Shortly after they settled in Nebraska, Thomas Sr. was killed in a hunting
accident, leaving Elizabeth alone to raise their six children. Somehow she
survived, and lived out her life on the homestead. She died in 1890, and is
buried in Pleasant View Cemetery, near the town of Bellwood, NE.
