PORT OF BOSTON
I, Thomas Hewitson, Master of the Scythia, from Liverpool, do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that I have caused the surgeon of said vessel sailing therewith, or the surgeon employed by the owners thereof, to make a physical and oral examination of each and all of the aliens named in the foregoing Lists or Manifest Sheets, 30 in number, and that from the report of said surgeon and from my own investigation, I believe that no one of said aliens is an idiot, or insane person, or a pauper, or is likely to become a public charge, or is suffering from a loathsome or a dangerous contagious disease, or is a person who has been convicted of a felony or other crime or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, or a polygamist, or an anarchist, or under promise or agreement express or implied, to perform labor in the United States, or a prostitute, and that also according to the best of my knowledge and belief, the information in said Lists or Manifests concerning each of said aliens named therein is correct and true in every respect.
Sworn to before me this 18 day of June 1893 at Boston, Immigration Officer.
I, Francis Edward Cane, Surgeon of the Scythia, Sailing therewith, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that I have had 12 years experience as a Physician and Surgeon, and that I am entitled to practice as such by and under the authority of General Medical Council, London, and that I have made a personal examination of each of the aliens named herein, and that the foregoing Lists or Manifests Sheets, 30 in number, are according to the best of my knowledge and belief, full, correct, and true in all particulars, relative to the mental and physical condition of such aliens.

The use of * indicates an error or omission by the original recorder. The use of ? indicates a letter or word that could not be read due to the quality of the original document. The use of *?* indicates an undetermined amount of letters or words that are missing due to the part of the page that was torn off prior to microfilming. The page numbers were stamped on each page and started at #169 for list A, which was the first page and ending with #196. The letters changed with the port of departure. The first passengers boarded at Liverpool, England on June 8, 1893. Then other passengers boarded at Queenstown, Cork County, Ireland on June 9, 1893. Queenstown list began with page #193 or passenger # 639 in part 3. There was no indication or column on the manifest list as to the location of the passengers on the ship, whether they were in cabins or in steerage. The original recorder sometimes abbreviated the first names of passengers. Such as Thos. for Thomas, Rbt. for Robert, Jas. for James, Fredk. for Frederick, Patk. for Patrick, Gust. for Gustaf, and Margt. for Margaret. The manifest did not always name the country, sometimes only the city, town, village or county of the passengers last residence. If the final destination and address of the relative was the same, it was not transcribed. The use of V’and W’s, or J’s and Y’s in the scandinavian countries are interchangeable. Passenger #639 Surname Taymore could be Tymere Passenger #659 to #661 Surname Konnion could be Konnian or Hannian Passenger #685 Surname Toomery could be Toomey Passenger #701 Surname Lyne could be Lynn Passenger #707 Surname Hehir could be O'Hehir Passenger #742 Surname Tanouye could be Tanayth Passenger # 243 is my grandfather, Frans Oscar Gustafson.
