SS Saale
I, B B?anke, Master of the German SS Saale do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of the City of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said steamer at Bremen via Southampton from which port said steamer has now arrived; and that on said list is truly designated the age, the sex, and the calling of each of said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each, and also the destination or location intended by each; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died; also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, so far as it can be ascertained, with reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. So help me God. Sworn to this July 12, 1890.

415 - Period after given name on manifest, indicating name is abbreviated.

419 - Surname could be Kallenbroun, Kaltenbronn, or Kaltenbroun.
423 - Given name looks like Masehe or Masche.
426 - Surname could be Decher.
435 - Given name is most likely Catharine; the ? looks like "a" written over
either an "h" or an "l".
446 - No surname recorded on manifest and no ditto marks under preceding names.
(Note: This recorder only wrote surname once for each family, using ditto
marks for remaining members.) This passenger appears to be traveling
with the Schlank family as brackets group passengers 440-446 together in
column 10.

450 - Given name probably Sussel with umlaut over the "u", possibly Siessel
or Seissel. Surname looks like Jiminowicz or Jimanowicz (fourth letter

461 - Adult female with same given and surnames as eleven month old

read; first could be "B", "C", or "P"; name possibly B??ovoczky,
C??ovoczky, or P??ovoczy.
515 - Surname may be Krenilzky.
520 - ? in surname looks like "n" over "p"; possibly Duhonolsky or Duhopolsky.
523 - Final letter in given name looks like an "o" but may be an "a".
524 - On page 5 of this manifest there was a notation that this passenger died
on July 6 from "heart paralysis". There was no mention of this death on
this page.
525 - Surname could be Neupaner.
536 - Umlaut over "u" in surname.
545 - Unlaut over "o" in surname.
546 - Umlaut over "u" in surname.
553 - The second numeral in the Age column is nearly covered by an ink blot.
Two straight marks (like top of a 4) are visible at the top border of the
ink blot; probably the age is 34.
