Correspondence 2/5/01 passengers #43-50 Oberhaus
"On 12 December 1846, Johann Henrich Oberhaus (farmer and master
blacksmith), his wife, Anna Maria Ilsebein (Mary) née Kammann Oberhaus, and
their four children arrived in New York on the Bark "Ohio". With them on
the trip from Ahle, Westphalia, was Johann's younger brother, Johann
Friedrich Oberhaus, age 24, and another passenger (relationship unknown) by
the name of Hermann Heinrich Oberhaus, age 16. Johann was born 5 Sept. 1800
in Ahle, Westphalia and christened 10 Sept. 1800 in Bünde Lutheran Parish
(per FHL #473724). His wife was born 10 Aug 1816 in Rödinghausen,
Westphalia. They were married 6 December 1833 in Bünde (or possibly
Rödinghausen) Parish. Mary died about 1848 and Johann then married Clara
Lauman on 30 May 1849 (marriage officiated by the Rev. G. Cronenwett).
Clara was buried 4 Nov. 1857, age 41, at Fort Meiggs Cemetery, Perrysburg,
Ohio. Johann died Feb. 1859; his Will was probated about 26 Feb. 1859 in
Wood County; his estate included an 80AC farm in Perrysburg Twp, Wood
County, Ohio. Guardians were appointed for his minor children, including
three born in Ohio to his second wife Clara.
Of Johann's children, we know that Anna Elisab. (known as Mary) was
married 3 Jan. 1858 to John Fall and lived in Adams Twp, Lucas County, Ohio.
The others (except Casper b. 1837 whereabouts unknown) lived in Allen Twp,
Ottawa County, Ohio: Johann Heinrich (known as Henry) married Anna
Englehart; Friedr. Wilhelm (known as William) never married. Children by
Clara are: John (12 children); Anna Kath. Elisabeth (known as Elizabeth or
Libbey) (one daughter); and John Henry (never married)."
I am always interested in hearing from anyone who may be related to
this family and is interested in sharing family history information.
