Transcriber's Notes:
This is the 2nd section of the manifest of the SS Oder, Bremen to New York,
  arrival Sept. 4, 1884.
The original manifest was in very poor condition or was filmed very badly.
There were huge areas of blackened copy and some data was impossible to
  read.
The transcriber did not include the following columns:
  1. Destination or location intended by each - at the beginning of this
section, the column is headed as "U.St.". Subsequent pages have ditto
marks; however, there are blackened areas where the transcriber can
not vouch for any different entries.
  2. Date and cause of death (readable, but no data entered)
  3. Number of pieces of baggage (poor conditon)

The Captain added the column "places where passengers are from". This
column was in pretty bad shape but a few towns were deciphered. Sometimes
only the first or second letter was readable. The transcriber typed what
could be seen and followed it with ...

The transcriber feels that the manifest was literally pieced together for
filming and that some pieces could be misplaced and information about the
European towns could be very misleading. Interested parties can contact
the transcriber to receive a scan of the "place".

  Passengers #292 & 293 MULLER
Adam "Ewald", born 1/9/1870 and Johanne, born 11/17/1871, in Hof-an-
der-Steinach (Bavaria, Germany) to Johann Georg and Elizabeth
Leuthauser MULLER. At age 14 and 13, respectively, they left their
parents to travel to America with their uncle. I'm not sure which MULLER
on this ship was their uncle. The children settled in Bureau County,
Illinois. As the story goes, Ewald met his future bride, Katharina Goetz,
as he walked through a field on his first Sunday in his new homeland!
Ewald and Katharina later married 3/1/1892 and finally settled in Bremer
County, Iowa until their deaths. Johanne MULLER later married Ed Whitney
and remained in Bureau County, Illinois. If your family might be a part
of my family, please contact me - Debbie McCarrell
