Written below list of passengers is the following, 13 children under one year. There is no exc??, then letters z b.
I Heinrich Ehlers master of this Hamburg ship Oder arrived from Hamburg on this 10 Novbr do hereby solemnly and truly swear that Thirteen person on this manifest arriving who came to this city as passengers were under twelve months of age So help me God. H. Ehlers
Subscribed and sworn to before me this 11th day of November J Edmonds Collector of deeds.
Transcriber's Notes:
* In the sworn statement, schip Oder, is as spelled on the original manifest.
The first 4 ? letters after "So help me God" are run together.
The first 2 letters could be fr, the last 2 letters are
unreadable.
* At the top of the first page above the sworn statement there is
written the following: Note sent Nov 12th, and ?????.
* The original recorder has spelled out male and female but for
spacing reasons, I have entered only the M and F.
* If a child was under the age of 1 year, original recorder has
left the age column blank and they are identified as such by
the entry of baby or child in the occupation column.
* When a family had more than one child, the original recorder
has a bracket encompassing all of them and the words "his
children" written in the occupation column. To eliminate blank
spaces and so it doesn't seem like we left anything out, the
transcriber has typed child in the occupation column.
* In the column "The country to which they severally belong",
there are 5 passengers in the second cabin area numbers 265,
267, 268, 269 and 273 that have citizen written after the
country name Germany. For spacing reasons, the transcriber
has omitted the word citizen.
* After passenger 210 the original recorder has started numbering
from 207. I have changed this and numbered numerically with
211 and so on.
14 - 16 The surname could also be Miller
17 - The occupation is smudged where the first 2-4 letters
are but by the ending letters, ant, it could be merchant.
18 - The occupation is as spelled, could be a mispelling for
chemist.
21 - The first ? in the surname looks like either an e or
an i, and the second looks like how the original recorder
has written a c. The letters are slightly run together
making them hard to read. Possible names are Sencke,
Sincke.
36 - Carl Miller could also be Carl Muller, there is a mark
above the second letter and I could not tell whether
it is an umlaut or where the original recorder dotted
an i.
41 - First name could be for Friederik and the surname could
also be Passow, the f I have entered could also be a
leading s, making the name Frdr Passow.
42 - The same notation from the previous transcriber note for
the surname also applies to his wife, Eliese Pafsow or
Eliese Passow.
43 - The first letter in the surname is very faint and it
could also be Bulmann.
45 - The surname Gerri?ho has some very light areas and
hard to read. It looks like another letter could be
where I have a ? because there is a line that goes
up to the h, maybe a c or an s for a name of
Gerricho or Gerrisho.
59 - Surname Raug?eit could also be Raugheit or Raugkeit
60 - First name Herrm could be short for Herrman or
Herrmann
61 - Surname ?ammer could also be Lammer or Sammer
62 - Surname ?ammer could also be Lammer or Sammer
67 - First name initial could be for Friederick
70 - Wilh could be short for Wilhelm
74 - Surname could also be Miller, there is a mark above
the i or u but cannot tell for sure whether it is
an umlaut over a u or a dot for an i.
84 - First name could be short for Friedrick
87 - Surname could also be Kunze
88 - Surname could also be Kunze
89 - Surname could also be Kunze
90 - Surname could also be Kunze
91 - Surname could also be Kunze
92 - The first several letters (and I can't tell how
many) are unreadable due to an area that has a
white spot, there could possibly be 2-3 letters
with otter on the ending.
114 - Not sure of the spelling of the first name,
could be Wacke or Waike, I am sure of the Wa and
the ke but not of the c or i.
115 - There is a mark over the o in the first name that
looks like a small s.
118 - Fritz Heine has a line crossed thru his name but
all other column information is given with no
crossing out. Above the passenger #118 is this
notation, "??ite dep?ind", not sure of these
letters, they are written very small and they are
faint in some areas.
151 - Letters in the surname Pinc?a??wer could be
Pinckanwer, Pinchauwer, Pinchanwer or Pinckanwer.
The letters are run close together making them
hard to read.
170 - I am sure of the first 4 letters in the first name,
but not sure if there is another letter after the t.
It looks like a tail goes up that could be an i but
it is not dotted like the original recorder has
written it in other names.
183 - The surname could also be Schrott. I cannot tell if
the second to last letter is crossed with the last
letter t.
185 - The first letter of the surname is not fully readable.
There is a loop at the top that looks like a loop on
the D's that the original recorder has written
elsewhere on this list. Does not look like a
P or an R, so I think it could be Dorchen
194 - First name ? letter could be a k for Elkan Hirsch, or
an h for Elhan.
201 - The passenger name has been badly smudged and very few
letters are readable. Surname first letter looks like
how the recorder has written his s's but only the top
of the letter is clear. There could be 4 more letters
and then an n. Also the occupation is in a smudged
area making it unreadable, close to the end there is a
letter that has an upward tail but nothing else is
readable.
202 - The ? letter of the surname We??elschafer are badly
smudged. The first ? could be an i or an n and the
second ? could be an d or t as there is a tail that
goes up above the line and it looks like it could be
crossed as in a t. Possible surnames are Weidelschafer,
Weitelschafer, Weidelschafer, Wendelschafer or
Wentelschafer.
203 - There could be 2 letters after the R in the surname,
possibly an o and s. Rosefsmann. The letters are not
real clear due to an area that is very faint.
204 - Kle?ns could be Kleins. This is also in the faint
area of this manifest.
207 - Ingeborg Thurin has all columns crossed out. This
passenger is listed again in the First Cabin area,
number 300.
208 - Louisa Thurin has all columns crossed out, she
appears again in the First Cabin area number 301.
209 - Christian Thurin has all columns crossed out, he
is listed again in the First Cabin area number 302.
210 - Anna Ursin has all columns crossed out but is
listed again in the First Cabin area number 303.
211 - 213 Surname letters run together but the letters could
be ius or uis, Alius or Aluis.
214 - More possible spellings for surname could be
Hessner or Hepner.
219 - The occupations first letter could be a p for pastor.
228 - The last three letters of the surname Scherzer???
are very faint but possible letters could be i
(there looks to be a dot above this), s or a
letter that has an upward tail (cannot be sure
that the tail goes with this letter) and the last
could be an n or an r. Surname possibilities are
Scherzerisn, Scherzeritn, Scherzeriln. The letters
are so faint that I am not really sure what they are.
244 - Babette Erhardine Hoffman has been crossed out,
there is no info in the age or occupation columns.
She is listed again as passenger
in the second cabin section.
245 - Surname could also be Miller, there is a mark above
the u or i and could either be an umlaut over the u
or where an i has been dotted.
250 - Caroline Bothinsser has been crossed out. There
isn't any information given in the occupation column.
251 - Surname could also be Schinssel
261 - Surname could also be Largel
266 - Last two letters in surname are in a area that is
whited out but looks like an i and then the last
letter is unreadable.
277 - Martin Hindricksen has the first and last name
crossed out. The following is written beneath the
passenger information "sai?e be?ein?" Cannot make
out these ? letters
278 - Gabriel Gabrielsen has the first and last name
crossed out.
285 - See note on passenger 244
304 - The ? letter in the occupation looks like an h that
is written elsewhere on this list, however, I could
not find an occupation in any of my resources for
the word hafen.
