I, John Von Helms, Master of the Steamship SS Newbern do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following ???? manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of Customs of the Collection District of San Francisco is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board the said steamship at * from which port said steamship has now arrived and on said list is designated the age, sex, and the calling of each of the said passengers, the location of the compartment or space occupied by each during the passage, the country of citizenship of each and also the destination or location intended by each; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage, and the dates and causes of death, and the names and ages of those who died, also of the pieces of baggage of each; also a true statement, as far as can be asceertained, in reference to the intention of each alien passenger as to a protracted sojourn in this country. So help me God.

LIST OR MANIFEST OF ALIEN IMMIGRANTS FOR THE COMMISSIONER OF IMMIGRATION.
Required by the regulations of the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, under Act of Congress, approved March 3, 1893, to be delivered to the Commissioner of Immigration by the Commanding Officer of any vessel having such passengers on board upon arrival at a port in the United States.

This manifest has two separate pages, each in a different format. They are transcribed separately. The following columns in the first table had identical entries for all passengers and so were not included in the table: Seaport for Landing in the US=S.F. By whom was passage paid?=self Whether ever in Prison, Almshouse or supported by Charity=no Whether a Polygamist=no Whether under contract to labor in the US=no Condition of Health Mental and Physical=good Whether having any deformities=no There are two blanks in the captain's statement associated with the second table that have no entries. These are indicated by "*." Missing or illegible letters are replaced with?. 1 has been to Solano Co 1889. He is going to join Brother de la Fuenti in Vacaville 1-4 This surname is clearly spelled with a final i in all instances but #2 where the final l letter is obscured by an ink blot. 2-4 The columns for sex, marital status and occupation have "children of Fernando de la Fuenti" written in 5 has been to New York 1891. 6 has been to New York 1889. 7 has been to S.F. Mch 1893. He is going to join uncle J de Young 18 Valencia St. 8 has been to S.F. 1890 9 has been to S.F. 1889 11 is going to join parents New Orleans, La. 13-15 "children of Rufina de Miramontez" is written into occupation column. 17 has been to S.F. 1890. He is going to join Parents Phila Penn. 20-21 first missing letter is "l" or "t" second is "i" or "r." 26 $10 is written in the Location of Compartment Column. 18-26 "From Guaymas" is written in the Died on voyage column. 27 "From La Paz" is written in the Died on voyage column. 28-31 "From Mazatlan" is written in the Died on voyage column. 29 age is 40, 41 or 48. 32 The first letter of his first name could be "F" or "T." $40 is written in the Location of Compartment Column. 34 There is a notation that this passenger left at Redondo for the east by railroad. 32-34 "From Ensenada" is written in the Died on voyage column.
