Transcriber's Notes:

This list was very hard to read because the original paper manifest was terribly
foxed before it was microfilmed. The use of an asterick indicates an omission or
error on the part of the original list writer.

All but two of the passengers were from England, All were planning to become
citizens of the United States, none of the passengers died on the voyage and all
were accommodated "Between Decks" These columns have been eliminated.

The last two passengers were from the United States returning home.
177-180 This passenger's name is unreadable due to paper damage. The first letter
of the first name looks to be an H, The next letters are obliterated and the last
two letters may be tk. The last name starts with Will but the next letters are
unreadable.
203 This passenger's occupation is unknown. The first letter may be a B or D,
but using either of those letters with the rest of the writing makes no sense to me.
206 The first name is abbreviated in such a way that the full name is not perfectly
clear. I would think the name is Christian in that the child is a male.
212 This last name is unreadable after the S. The rest of the letters could be
anything.
220 The last name could also be Swinyard.
232 This last name may be Morpheres but I am not sure at all.
246 I enlarged this surname and these are the only letters I can see.
247 There might be a letter after the y. There might not be also.
248-252 I am sure about the B and the final h. The t might not be correct and
the other letters are a mystery.
253-255 I cannot tell what the letters are, or approximate them.
256 The first letter of the surname might also be a P. The second letters might
be fr. The question mark might be a d. The problem is not finding other letters
of the same size to make a comparison.
262 This occupation is either Cloxpaw or Cloypaw, neither of which makes sense.
Or this may be a bad spelling of Clergyman.
278-280 This is either Sansbury or Samsbury.
283 There is a middle initial but I cannot read it.
290 The writer dropped the final e. I am pretty sure it is Charlotte.
314 This person was not listed as a child or given an occupation.
321 The last name looks like Arid, it doesn't look like anything else.
329-330 The first three letter of this surname could be Par or Pas.
331 The first letter of the surname is an H. The name might be Houghton. I am
not sure of the ou after the H.
334 The surname appears to Mowtle. The w is very difficult to see, even enlarged.
343 The first name is an S with an r raised above the line a bit. It looks like
an abbreviation for senior. The surname is just impossible to make sense of.
344-346 This is the same surname as the previous one.
359 The occupation could be paperhanger.
369 The occupation appears to be an abbreviation for Laborer.
371 The last name appears to be Adam with no s at the end. The foxing of the
paper makes this very dark but I do not see any hint of an s at the end. This
passenger is listed as American.
372 The surname is clearly Adamson. He is listed as an infant in the age column
and there is a ditto mark in the occupation column thus indicating a farmer like
the preceeding passenger. This is the last name on the manifest and I would
imagine the writer was just tired and didn't pay attention. This passenger is
listed as American.

Correspondence 04/29/2002 passengers #363-366 Henson
My wife's gt gt aunt Charlotte Henson (nee Neal) of Buckinghamshire,
England, and her husband Joseph (of Deanshanger, Northants, England),
and their children Joseph William and Lizzie, were passsengers on the
Manchester, which sailed from Liverpool to New York in June 1862.
They were numbers 363 to 366. Joseph snr was aged 32, and Charlotte
32, and Joseph jr was 3, and his sister an infant. They had had two
children already in Passenham, Northants, but both had died aged two.

The family settled in Tooele, Utah, where Joseph jr died aged 19.
Sadly, Lizzie had already died, in Florence, Nebraska, just one month
after reaching the States. Joseph and Charlotte had more children -
Henry Alvin (1866 to 1883), Willard John (1872 to 1952), Willena Jane
(1872 to 1956), Levina (1869 to 1946), Nephi James (1874 to 1938),
and Benjamin Reuben (1863 to 1904).

I would be grateful for any information on this branch of my family.

Correspondence 10/04/2004 passengers #212, 213, & 247 Hemsley
#212 Marian Si? - being next to #213 Edward Hemsley, this is most likely
Miriam Simonds (I have seen it spelled several ways but this is the most
common presentation of her name.) She married #213 Edward Hemsley.

#213 Edward Hensley - should be Edward Hemsley. He married #212 Miriam
Simonds and settled in Salt Lake City, Utah. (brother of my direct ancestor
Richard Hemsley who emigrated in 1856 on the ship Horizon)

Edward and Miriam HEMSLEY had three children, Miriam Adelaide (1864-1865),
Mary Ellen (1866-1883), and Rose Ann (1869-1908).

#247 Ellen Hemsley? - Ellen Hemsley is correct and there shouldn't be any
additional letters. She is the sister of Edward Hemsley and later married
a John Halford. Also settled in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Ellen and John HALFORD had five children, Sarah Elizabeth (1864-1919), Ellen
Elizabeth (1866-1916), John William Bradford (1868-1950), Robert Edward (1870-1949),
and Dorius Prescilla (1873-1911)

I would welcome any additional information or contacts about these families.
