Bark Laura
I, F. Wilmsen), master of the Bremen Bark Laura, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect list of all the passengers taken on board of the said Laura at Antwerp from which port said Laura has now arrived; and that on said list is truly disignated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said passengers who have died on said voyage; and the names and ages of those who died.
So help me God. (signed) F. Wilmsen

Transcriber's Notes:
The spelling of some names is questionable, as in several female given names having
no a or e on the end. They are spelled as recorded on the manifest.
While the column heading is clearly "The country to which they severally belong" in
most cases the recorder has given the nationality rather than the name of the country.
Several are also obvious misspellings, i.e., Prusia, Prusian and Prusien for Prussia,
Bavarien for Bavaria, Italien for Italy, Belgien and Beligien for Belgium. Many
passengers do not have a country listed. If there were ditto marks under a country
name, I have transcribed the name of the country. If no ditto marks, I have not
transcribed anything, although it is likely that the passenger was from the same
country as listed for previous passenger.
Abbreviations of occupations are those of the recorder, not the transcriber. I think
that Farm. and Far. are both farmers, Merch. is merchant, Photogr. is Photographer,
Shoemah. is Shoemaker.
1: This is the only passenger in First Cabin.
5: The surname could be Horsch.
10: Umlaut over o in surname.
14: The occupation Scultor is likely Sculptor.
15: This occupation is recorded as fariez. To my knowledge, the only thing close
would be farrier. Other transcribers have not come up with anything else.
55: Umlaut over u in surname.
60: Umlaut over u in surname.
64: Umlaut over u in surname.
83: The surname could be Wanztas.
133: The occupation Capenter is likely Carpenter.
Correspondence 01/09/03 passengers #117-123 Linz & #101 Beker
My g-g-grandfather Nicolaus Linz (#119) sailed with his parent and siblings
(#117 through #123). They settled in Mendota, La Salle, Illinois where they
had relatives. Also on board was Margaretha Beker (#101). Margaretha originally
headed for Chicago to stay with relatives, but she and Nicolaus married on
April 26, 1863. Nicolaus and Margaretha eventually settled with their family
in Danbury, Woodbury, Iowa. Diane Uehle Stern
