Correspondence added November 26, 2007 - Passengers 39-44 DOMDEY

My grandfather (Karl Domdey) told me that some of his (my) ancestors died on this ship. The Domdey family is a Prussian family, that lived in Mühltal, Bromberg, Prussia (it is called Smukalla, Bydgoszcz, Poland now) for many years. They had a watercraft sawmill and were head foresters and farmers for many generations. They spoke German, but also Polish. Some ancestors came from Coventry, England via Switzerland to Kulm, Bessarabia (Moldova) and settled later in Prussia. They joined the Deutscher Orden and were all conservative protestants. After World War II, most people of the Domdey family had to leave Prussia when the Russian and Polish came. They went to West Germany. The Russian red army wanted to kill all protestant Germans (policemen who worked for the Polish Army in the beginning of World War II in fight against the Russian communists) who were witnesses of the Russian massacres against Polish officers. Only a few Domdey women stayed in the Polish Prussia (Danzig/Gdansk) after having married Polish husbands. My E-mail is domdeym@msn.com.
