Correspondence 06/29/02 passenger #47 Eufinger
Hello, I am a descendant of Nicholas Eufinger. He was my
great-great-great-great-grandfather (4g). He was born 3/10/1800
in Villmar, Waldeck, Hesse, Nassau, Germany. He was married to
Anna-Maria Wagner and they had 6 children all of whom were born
in Germany.
Our family history says that Nicholas and Anna-Marie came to the
USA on September 17, 1846 on the ship the James Edward. Nicholas
is listed on your list here but Anna-Maria is not. However, I do
not see any women listed on this list. Is it possible they were
not named on the list? Our data says they came from Antwerp to
Galveston, Texas. The list does not show port of departure or
arrival. It lists this as unknown. They migrated to St. Louis,
Missouri shortly after arriving in Texas. They had 6 children all
born in Germany and they must have come to the USA with their parents
as the oldest would have been 12 at the time Nicholas came to St. Louis..
None of the children are listed on your roster either. They were:
Joseph (my 3g-grandfather) born 1831, Johannes born 1837, Anna-Maria
or Mary Ann born 1845 , Anton born 1835, Catharina born 1841, and
Elisabeth born 1834. Joseph worked as a surveyor for the railroad
and I understand that many of the Eufinger men were skilled laborers.
I also understand that the name was spelled Euffinger and changed to
Eufinger and is sometimes seen as Enfinger. Laura Bozzay
