Schooner Industry
I, L. Johnson, do solemnly, sincerely, and truly Swear that the Report or Manifest subscribed with my name, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the District of Philad., contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the passengers which were on board the Schr Industry at the time of her sailing from the port of Saint John or which have been taken on board at any time since; that I am at present and have been during the voyage master of the said vessel. And I do likewise Swear that all matters whatsoever in the said Report or Manifest are, to the best of my knowledge and belief, just and true.
Sworn before me, this 16th day of December 1833* (no signature) Collector. (signed) Laurance Johnston
Report or Manifest of all the Passengers taken on board the Schr. Industry whereof L. Johnson is Master, from Saint John burthen 74 85/94 Tons and owned by A. McKenzie, C. Adams & J. Slegee of Saint John and bound to Philadelphia.
Columns represent: Names, Age, Sex, Occupation, To what country belonging, Country of which it is their intention to become inhabitants, Number and Names of Passengers who have died on the voyage.
1 Owen Casseday 35 male* Labour Ireland U.S. 2 Mary Ann Casseday 32 male* Labour Ireland U.S. 3 Mary Casseday * female Labour Ireland U.S. 4 Margaret Casseday 9 female Labour Ireland U.S. 5 Alan Casseday 5 male Labour Ireland U.S. 6 John Casseday 3 male Labour Ireland U.S. 7 James Casseday 6mos female* Labour Ireland U.S. 8 Ellen Casseday 60yr female Labour Ireland U.S. 9 Jame* Mary 34 male* Labour Ireland U.S. 10 Mary Cassey* 25 female Labour Ireland U.S. 11 Ellen Cassey* 3mo. female Labour Ireland U.S. Transcriber's Notes: This list was not numbered, numbers were added for transcription. *The date on the sworn statement is clearly December 16th, 1833, but the NARA label has this ship dated December 16, 1832 and it appears at the end of the 1832 list. The column, "Number and Names of Passengers Who have died on the voyage", was blank and is not included in this transcription. * The word "Labour " was on the first line and ditto for the all the rest of the list. * Passenger #1, sex was written as "female" but overwritten as "male". * Passenger #2, sex was clearly written as "male". * Passenger #3, age could be 11 or this could be a ". * Passenger #7, Sex was clearly written "female". Film was very faint but name appeared to be "Jame", could be "Jane"?. * Passenger #9, there was no ditto mark so have to assume surname was "Mary" though it seems likely to be "Casseday". Sex shows the upper loop of an "f" followed by "male". Thus it seems the writer started to write "female" but failed to finish the "f" and include the "e". * Passengers #10 &11, surname could be "Casseday" but seems clearly written as "Cassey".
