Transcriber's Notes:

  The captain's name is written with the middle initial of H at the beginning of this manifest,
    though the captain himself signed it using the middle initial F.
  Lpool abbreviates Liverpool.
  A stamp on the top right of the manifest identifies R.J. Godwin, No.18 Pine St., New York,
    as Custom House Broker and Notary Public.
  The signature of the District Collector may be MMoffriend.
  In the statement that begins, List or Manifest..., the name Glasgow was placed in quotation
   marks on the original manifest.
  The column, Died on Voyage, has been omitted because it was not used.
  The column, Country Which They Intend to Inhabit, has been omitted because the entry was
   United Stated for every passenger.
  In the sex column, Male was consistently written with a capital M, while female was written
   with a lower case f.
  The occupation written as Lab is an abbreviation for Laborer.
  An apostrophe indicates that the letter following it was written as a superscript. On this
    particular manifest, the superscripted letters are also underlined. In many cases these
    letters are not well defined and cannot be identified.
  Because of a lack of clarity in the formation of some of the letters, occasionally there are
    potential variations to a transcribed surname. If one of the variations seems more likely
    than the others, it is listed above and the other possibilities are listed in these notes;
    otherwise the unclear letters are replaced by question marks and suggested surname
    possiblilities will be below.

* Passenger #315, many of the passengers whose given name is Mary have an indistinct
    letter, represented by a question mark, that may be a C following the name Mary. It is
    superscripted and underlined, and separated from Mary by a small space. This may be an
    abbreviation for a two-part name such as Mary Catherine. Other passengers affected are
    #329, 346, 351, 352, 367, 379, 399, 416, 487.
* Passenger #307, there are two slanted lines before the h in the given name. The second
    one is crossed by the loop leading into the h. The name could be Catth or a sloppy Cath.
* Passenger #313, surname may be Cond.
* Passenger #327, 328, the ? looks like an undotted i, though it could be a very thin r, s or an
     e. The surname could be Carnody, Cainody, Caenody or Casnody. The letter is clearly
     separated from the n, and it is not likely that it represents the first part of an m
     rather than the combination ?n, therefore it is not likely that it is Camody.
* Passenger #329, see note #315.
* Passenger #334, 335, given name may be Denna or Dinna.
* Passenger #340, the superscript letter following the M is unclear. It resembles a
    stubby, slightly curved, upside-down y or a tiny capital R where the loop on the top is so
    narrow that is appears filled in. It is possible that it is an l, abbreviating the name
    Michael.
* Passenger #343, the original entry on this line was for Roger Hor?r. That name was crossed
    out and replaced by John Wrin. The letter represented by the ? is unreadable due to the
    heavy line crossing out the name.
* Passenger #346, see note #315.
* Passenger #351, 352, see note #315.
* Passenger #353, surname could be Drus, Drees, Dreis, Dries.
* Passenger #354, surname could be Drus, Drees, Dreis, Dries. The ? following Brid represents a
    superscript letter that may be a C. It is separated from Brid by a small space and may
    indicate an abbreviation for a two-part name such as Bridget Catherine.
* Passenger #359, surname could be Harley. The second letter looks like a slightly closed u,
    but it could also be an a that was not closed off completely.
* Passenger #362, surname could be Crinar.
* Passenger #367, see note #315.
* Passenger #368, the given name may be Meise.
* Passenger #371, surname may be Deeling.
* Passenger #373, the ? following Brid represents a superscript letter that may be a C. It is
    separated from Brid by a small space and may indicate an abbreviation for a two-part name
    such as Bridget Catherine.
* Passenger #374, surname may be Deegan.
* Passenger #379, see note #315.
* Passenger #381, due to the way the letters are formed, some given names that have been
    transcribed as Jos could be Jer, and vice versa. Other passengers affected are #383, 393,
    394, 421 and 481.
* Passenger #383, see note #381.
* Passenger #385, the surname may be Capethom.
* Passenger #386, while the rest of the names on this manifest are listed in the order of given
    name, surname, it seems possible that this name could be listed in the reverse order.
* Passenger #393, surname could be Reasdon. Also see note #381.
* Passenger #394, surname may be Cried, Creed or Crud. Also see note #381.
* Passenger #395, surname could be Reasdon.
* Passenger #396, superscript letter cannot be identified. Surname could be Rudy.
* Passenger #397, surname could be Rudy.
* Passenger #399, surname may be Fitzgerold. Also see note #315.
* Passenger #416, see note #315.
* Passenger #421, see note #381.
* Passenger #425, surname could be Halpon.
* Passenger #429, the superscript letter following the given name cannot be identified because
    it looks like a small stray mark that was underlined.
* Passenger #445, surname could be McKun.
* Passenger #446, 447, 448, surname could be Leesen, Lusen, Leeson, Lieson or Luson. In the
    case of each of these passengers it appears that the individual filling out the manifest got
    a little confused, filling in occupation information in both the Sex and Occupation columns.
* Passenger #449, the abbreviation for the given name may be J'no or J'ne.
* Passenger #456, the abbreviation for the given name may be J'no or J'ne. The surname is
    either Reardon or Reasdon.
* Passenger #461, the superscript letter in the given name is a curved line similar to an upside
    down u.
* Passenger #464, the given name may be J'no.
* Passenger #474, surname could be Deasy.
* Passenger #475, surname could be Fitzgibbon or Fitzgebbon.
* Passenger #476, surname could be Whittle.
* Passenger #481, 482, 483, surname could be Brisnaham or Brimaham. For Passenger #481, also
    see note #381.
* Passenger #487, Surname could be Neogle. Also see note #315.
* Passenger #490, the superscript letter is not identifiable.
* Passenger #495, the first initial could be a J.
* Passenger #498, there is a very faint mark on the manuscript just above what has been
    transcribed as the initial C. There is a possibility that it represents part of the letter
    below it, so that the initial could be an E instead of a C.
* Passenger #504, surname is Rocke or Roeke.
* Passenger #505, 506, surname is Ekstudt, Eksteedt, Eksteidt or Ekstiedt.
* Passenger #513, a small f is written in the age column immediately to the left of where Lad
    was written in the sex column.
* Passenger #514, a small m is written in the age column immediately to the left of where Child
    was written in the sex column.
* Passenger #515, 516, 517, a small f is written in the age column immediately to the left of
    where Child was written in the sex column for passenger #515. The same information was
    indicated for #516 and 517 through the use of ditto marks.
* Passenger #525, the superscript letter is unidentifiable.
* Passenger #528, 529, 530, surname may be Henschol.
* Passenger #536, the superscript letter looks like a backwards printed upper case D. Surname
    may be Holstead.
* Passenger #538, the superscript letter following Mar is unidentifiable. It looks like
    a blob of ink. The surname may be McIlwaine.
* Passenger #539, 540, the surname may be McIlwaine.
* Passenger #541, surname may be Sard.
* Passenger #542, the middle initial could also be J or an I. The surname may begin with a
    J. This name may be Tering or Jering
* Passenger #549, the superscript letter after the Rob looks like an underlined dot.
* Passenger #551, 552, surname may be Allpert.
* Passenger #554, given name could be Hz. Surname could be Kimbull.
* Passenger #566, there is a horizontal line drawn through the space where the given name
    would have normally been written. The parents of this two day old infant are not known
    as there is no Robson adult, either male or female on this part of the list.

Correspondence 6/11/2003 passenger #320 Maloney
Ellen Maloney is my great-grandmother. She arrived on the SS Glasgow
on June 20, 1862.  Ellen...a native of County Waterford...married
John Kiernan...a native of County Cavan a few years after arriving in
NYC. John arrived on the Ship Liberty on June 19, 1843. After
arriving in NYC, John became a mariner. Ellen and John settled in
Albany, New York where they raised a large family. Their children
included...Anna and James...twins, John, William, Ellen
(my grandmother), Daniel, Joseph and Thomas. Many of Ellen's
family members still reside in the Albany area, however many of
descendants now live on the west coast as well as the southeast.
Many of us have returned to Ireland to visit the many areas where
our ancestors originated...especially the little town of Cappoquinn
near Dungarvan. Mary Patricia Cassidy Parker
