S. Then a line is drawn down the entire length of the list. Written over this line for some passengers, however, is the word "citizen." The passengers are #24, Joseph Goran; #131, August Ernst; #162, Lorenz Davidshafer; #164, Christian Strahm; and #166 Theodore Meier. In the case of passenger #25, Rosalie Netter, the word "Citizen" has been written, then crossed out. * The only occupation in the column entitled "Occupation" is farmer. A line is then drawn down the entire length of the list. Clearly, many of the children would not have had an occupation. * In the column headed "Died on the Voyage" there is a notation. The first word appears to be "Between" but the second which begins with a "D" has been cut off in the photocopying. * The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read, due to the quality of the original document. * The country of origin for passengers #26, #27 and #28 cannot be read due to a black mark on the photocopy. Passenger Notes: Passengers #66 through #72 - the second letter of their name cannot be read. It appears to be a straight line with no loops which extends below the line of the other letters. Passenger #75 - the 2 letters of the given name cannot be read. They appear to be an "I" and superscript "d". Passenger #214 - The first 5 letter of the given name and indistinct and cannot be read. Passenger #219 - In the given name, the letters are too indistinct to determine the number of letters or what they are. Passenger #221 - In the given name, the letters are too indistinct to determine the number of letters or what they are. Passenger #251 - The first two letter of the surname cannot be determined. Correspondence 8/13/00 passengers - Palmers, line 105-110. My ancestors, George Palmer, his wife Rosine, their children, Rosine age 4, Catherine age 2, Carl age, 9 months and Rosine's mother, Maria Magdalena Volk all left Freistett, Baden, Germany and sailed aboard the Wm. Frothingham in 1865 and arrived in New York on June 22, 1865. On the ship roster, they have the name Jacob Volk listed instead of Maria Magdalena Volk, his widow and my great-great grandmother. For years, I assumed that this was correct and that it was Rosine's father that sailed with them. Recently through the emigration records that I obtained from the Archive in Freistett, Germany, it referred to her as 'Jacob Volk's widow'. So I assume when they signed up to sail that they looked at her emigration record and saw the name 'Jacob Volk' and ignored the word 'widow'. So, it was my great-great grandmother that came instead of my great-great grandfather. This is how various records can be mis-interpreted just by a wrong word and you spend endless hours on the wrong information. They finally arrived in New York, June 22, 1865. I first found them in the Cincinnati City Directory in 1870. I am still working on where they were for the 5 years until they arrived here in Cincinnati. As a small child, I only remember two of the children that came here, Carl and Rosine. Of course they were very old by then. Unfortunately, I don't remember my great grandparents or great-great grandmother. Louise Phelps
