Richardson Transcriber's Notes: The right edge of the manifest is cut off, causing difficulty reading the sworn statement. The sworn statement appears to be superimposed across the top of the actual manifest, and the columns do not match up. The columns listed at the bottom of the sworn statement are not the columns actually used in the listing of passengers. The columns actually used are as follows: Names, Age, Sex, Country to which they severally belong, Country in which they intend to become inhabitants, Occupation. The column Died on the voyage is crossed out, and in its place is written Upper Between Deck. This appears at the top of each page of the manifest. All passengers are listed as traveling to New York. This is written once at the top of each page. In almost all cases, the names of the country of origin are given in French, i.e., Bade for Baden, Prusse for Prussia, Suisse for Switzerland, Etats Unis for United States, and Baviere for Bavaria, Italie for Italy, Savoie for Savoy, and Sardaigne for Sardinia. This also holds true for the occupations: fermier = farmer, peintre = painter, macon = mason or bricklayer, brasseur = brewer, mecanicien = mechanic or machinist. However, very few occupations are actually listed. An unusually large number of the passengers claim to be residents of the United States. While it is certainly possible that some passengers are returning to New York from a trip to the "old country," it seems odd that 24 of the 155 passengers are already U.S. residents. 2 Country to which they belonged was listed as "Suisse," which was then crossed out. 89 Name is crossed out. Although he is listed as "not on board," he is counted in the final tally of passengers. 144 Crease in manifest blurs country of origin; appears to be Baviere. 156 No age or sex listed.
