I, Robert Douglas Munro, Master of the S.S. Devonia do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List or Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board of the said S.S. Devonia at Glasgow and Moville from which Port said S.S. Devonia has now arrived; and that on the said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of the said Passengers, the part of the vessel occupied by each during the passage, the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who have died. 124  Ole A. R????gsg??dsen - all short letters.
136  He???????? Hanvelsen - two or three short letters, then a tall letter like
      a t, then another short letter, another tall letter, and two or three short 
      letters. Looks like Hernititser or Hemetotia. 

Correspondence 1/24/01 passengers #129-137 Stuve
The family came from Norway...Nordre Land township, County of Oppland.  They 
took the farm name, Stuve, as their surname.  One son, Lars (called Louis 
Stuve in the USA), was in the military academy at the time the rest of the 
family immigrated.  He came in 1882.  (B: 2 March 1854; M: 11 Sep 1897; 
D: 26 Nov 1942) He raised 7 children in Idaho.

#129 Hovel Larsen Stuve (B: 23 Apr 1823; D: 21 Jan 1901 at Jackson County, 
Wisconsin)

#130 Margrethe (his wife) (B: 31 Jan 1828; D: 13 Dec 1914 at Jackson County, 
Wisconsin.  Their destination was to the same area where her brother had 
settled.

#131 Martin Lauritz Hovelsen Stuve (B: 4 Sep 1852; M: 26 Dec 1882; 
D: 15 Jul 1936).  Raised 8 children at his farm a few miles from his 
parents' farm.

#132 Hans Christian Hovelsen Stuve (B: 7 March 1856; M: 19 Oct 1889; 
D: 9 Jul 1930).  Raised 10 children at Humbird, Wisconsin (with some 
years spent in Idaho).

#133 Margrethe Hovelsen (Margrete Martea, called 'Mattie' in USA)
(B: 15 Sep 1858; M: 30 Nov 1882; D: 26 Feb 1953 at St. Paul, Minnesota).  
Married Gus Gilbertson and raised 2 children in St. Paul.

#134 Edvard Hovelsen (Edward in USA)(B: 21 Mar 1862; M: 28 Jul 1888; 
D: 3 Nov 1940 at Jerome, Idaho). Raised 6 children in Idaho.  He came 
back to Wisconsin in 1888 from Idaho to marry a girl who had come with
her family from the same area in Norway.

#135 Gulbrand Hovelsen (Gilbert in USA)(B: 17 Nov 1865; D: 14 Nov 1918 
in shipyards at Astoria, Oregon). Unmarried; Resided in Idaho.

#136 Hennrikke Hovelsen (called 'Hattie')(B: 6 Jul 1868; M: 10 Apr 1898; 
D: 20 Apr 1958 at Sandpoint, Idaho).  Married Henry Norgaard and raised 
5 children in Idaho.

#137 Johan Hovelsen (John in USA)(B: 31 May 1871; M: 1 Sep 1900; 
D: 24 Jul 1940).  Raised 6 children on farm in Jackson County, Wisconsin.

church book records.  (Film #0308308 for 1860-1871 and
film #394320001 for 1834-1859)

UPDATE 09/04/01
#129 Hovel Larsen Stuve (B: 31 Jan 1828; D: 13 Dec 1914 at Jackson 
County Wisconsin).  Hovel received a Homestead Grant for an 80-acre 
parcel which was partially in Jackson and Tremealeau Counties (north of
York, Wisconsin).  It remained in continuous family ownership for 
3 generations (over 100 years) until 1992 when his grandson died and 
the place was sold. The property had first passed to his youngest son,
John (passenger #137), then to John's son, Howard, who also raised 
his family there.
