I, John Thomas do solemnly, sincerely and truly swear that the following List or Manifest of Passengers subscribed with my name and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs for the District of New York, contains, to the best of my knowledge and belief, a just and true account of all the Passengers received on board the Br. Transcriber's Notes:
The name Cushlamachree is Gaelic for "pulse of my heart," which is a term of
endearment that I've been told is equivalent to "my darling" or "my
sweetheart." It was among the "famine ships" that sailed out of Ireland
during the Great Potato Famine.
The use of an * indicates an omission or error made by the original recorder.
The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read due to
quality of original document.
6 There is an extra vertical line in the age. It could be 1/1.
7 The age has been written over, looking almost like 441.
8 In the last column, it is written "Died on Passage."
10 The age could possibly be /1, as the first vertical line is much taller
than the second.
12 The name is clearly Neal, but it may have been miswritten instead of
O'Neal. It is probably a young child traveling with his older spinster
relative Catherine O'Neal. The age could also be 1/1.
19 The age could be 46, as the second digit looks like () rather than the
usual zero.
21 The age could be 46, as the second digit looks like () rather than the
usual zero.
24 The second digit of the age looks like a slash mark over one (/1),
which resembles the "6" in the date in the Ship's Manifest.
26 The sex is clearly written as M, an obvious error.
29 Surname may possibly be Senane.
37 The age could be 16, as the second digit looks like () rather than the
usual zero.
38 The first name has been written over and there is a smudge near the end.
The final letter could be an "n." Age looks like a slash over the
number one.
52 The second digit of the age is written with a tall and short slash,
which seems in other cases to indicate a "6," although in this instance
a zero seems more logical if the names in this family group are arranged
in descending order according to age.
63 The age could also be 40.
67 The age could be 10.
78 The surname looks much like Tierney, although it has some letters
written over. I am assuming it is Tierney, as it is a married woman
and the preceding passenger was a male Tierney just two years older.
79 Surname could also be Thone.
82 There is what appears to be an inkblot near the end of the surname.
The name could be Morris or Morus.
88 The age is clearly one digit--a tall diagonal slash with a shorter
slightly curved line to the lower right, which I have been interpreting
as a six. There was obviously an error in listing these passengers.
94 Surname could be Taman.
95 Surname could be Taman.
97 Mary may possibly be Nany, as the letter at the beginning is written
with an extra flourish not found on other M's. However, see the
following infant's name,which is clearly Mary.
106 The age is either 28 or 29.
107 Age could be 20 or 25.
109 There is a smudge at the end of the surname, which might be Hehire.
120 Age could be 40 or 46.
136 Surname could be Catty, Caty, Catz.
137 Second digit of age has been written over. It could be 23 or 25.
142 Surname could be Gormone or Gormono.
