Transcriber's Notes:
The use of an * indicates an omission or error made by the original recorder,
or a comment.
The use of a ? indicates a word or letters that could not be read, due to
quality of original document.
There were no deaths on this passage other than the notation at the end of the
list following passenger number 305. Therefore the death column has been
eliminated.
* Ship's Name - The cover of the manifest is clearly written "Clarke",
and it has been filed with that name. However, the sworn statement both
times clearly is written "Clark", no 'e'.
* Date November 8th is written above a crossed-out 30th September.
* DC is believed to mean Deputy Collector. Missing surname letters
are possibly 'er' or 'm'.
Bade (misspelled for Baden) and Wurtemberg (umlaut over the u is missing) are
regions in Germany.
There are indications, that the person who wrote the list, was French: e.g.
the spelling of words like Prusse for Prussia, Hollande for Holland and the
spelling of some German women's names, such as Catharine for Katharina, Christine
for Kristina and the notes at the end of the list.
154 Surname has umlaut over the u.
163 Surname has umlaut over the o.
175 Surname has umlaut over the u.

297 Surname has umlaut over the u.
306 No first name shown.
308 No first name shown; Guadeloupe misspelled.
309 No first name shown.
Notes at end of list:
*"o" in "No" superscripted; accent (aigu) over last e of debarque.
*translation: nr 15 disembarked, leaves 304.
*birthdate not clear: most likely Nov. 2
Correspondence added 10-20-2006, Passenger 285, Fehr
#285 on the Caroline and Mary Clark MAY be my husband's ancestor,
Louis Fehr, born 1836 in Alsace, emigrated about 1852, settled in
La Salle County, IL by 1858 (marriage record 1858, 1860 - 1910 Censuses.)
He married Katharina Mendel (spelling varies) , born ca 1836 in Prussia,
who came to NY ca 1856 with a brother (name not known), according to a
letter. They had 10 or 11 children, of whom 8 lived. I have not found
their immigration, but reportedly they came to NY.
Regards,
Arlys (Reitz) LaFehr
